[I tried answering messages, but then my Internet decided it was bored with me and wanted to take a nap. I decided to quickly post this and my next deviation and quickly run away before it decided to turn hostile and devour my family (because, ya’know, the Internet can do that)]

[Spoilers...but you should have beaten CoD: WaW by now; spoilers for Black Ops, too]

The man before Alex Mason grunted at his request and remained silent. “Do you know how far I traveled to reach you? Reznov said if I needed help, you were the man to see!” Mason pleaded. As soon as the words left Mason’s lips, the man laughed. He laughed so hard that Mason was certain he would lose his balance and tumble down the cliff.

“I never thought I’d hear the day Viktor would say I was the person to go to...” He was smiling, but there was something sad in his smile, “I have only seen the man twice since I endured these wounds,” he stated, absentmindedly stroking the burn scars on his face, “...once in the hospital...and once before he and Dmitri...” He trailed off. “Reznov was a merciless man...and Dmitri...Dmitri was a confusing man.” He looked far off into the snowy mountains, but he seemed to be looking at something that wasn’t there. “...but those two men, as sad as it seems, were the only ones who I would trust with my life.”

“...so—”

“NO, I will not help you. If you wanted my help, you shouldn't have name-dropped Viktor Reznov, глупый американец.”

Due to the fact that Chernov appears to be alive at the end of the game, I decided to create this illustration for a fake fan-fiction where Alex Mason (when he is hunted by the CIA) seeks help from an "old friend" of Reznov's. Chernov spent most of the remaining years of WWII and after in the hospital recovering from his burn wounds and other injuries, and did not return to the Red Army afterward. Instead, he discovers he has a knack for intelligence work with his observational skills and his excellent encrypted note-taking skills. Thus, in his own way, he attempts to take down corruption through the information market. I know, all of this sounds very silly...but I just wanted an excuse to draw Chernov during the era of Black Ops
