this is one major efort by me! two napoleonic? ships in battle, you cn see the remains of another just disapearing beneath the waves, hope you like it, as most of this stuff is inspired by pirates of the carribean it aught to go down well!!!Related content

The sinking ship is prety tough to find. Cool, it was like a Where's Waldo with ships. I know someone that did thay with her signature. She'd hide it so people had something to do while visiting her section in our local art galleria.

i think i hid mine in this one!!! but i lost it... i think it was near the keel of the bow, before the surf! yeah rough seas are better to draw, and you get a greater sense of "speed" lol, and crashing about, plus you can draw the rounds skimming off wave crests which is fun! yeah they must be mad! i havent decided what nationalities they are though...

Well, I take it that the one plunging below is French. lol!
I like smooth water, that way I can put ships on it and draw shots skimming across, splinters making spray, masts falling over, floatsam bobbing about... shows how the battle is so disruptive, the chaos of war in a once peaceful world.

yeah i see what you mean, you show battle through contrast, i aim to show it...'metaphysically' (is that the right word?) by expressing it in the waves as well...
as for the sinking ship, i really for some reason saw it as an ally of the winning ship, i don't particularly like the look of either ship to be honest, so who knows! lol

I like it. Its a sort of Disney style. If you look at the first Pirates of the Caribbean, when Norrington is rushing to help Elizabeth at the docks, the music is dark, the sky suddenly overcast, the waves a bit active, and the clouds messy, dark. The wind had also picked up.

The waves *are* astonishing; it must have taken awhile to draw them. I loved the Master & Commander & POTC movies, so naval battle scenes are some of my favorites. Nice job!

wow thanks, glad you liked them, they really do take ages, but its all just random, i'd doubt even the worst storms are as bad a s that, glad you like them though, im trying to do the black pearl but its looking far too clean, like you say so far they are more royal navy squeaky clean ships, as per master and commander, hopefully ill manage some suitably grungy ones too

ha ha ha, glad you like it, they take ages to do, i really wanted this crashing sea effect, massive waves churning everywhere, and the bow wave had to be tremendous, like this great old ship was smashing through them, the other ships a right off though i think, can you stear a ship with all the fore masts shorn off? i dont know im no mariner, but it sure would be hard
