But really...Nintendogs is just really old now. Nobody really plays it anymore. Now they have the new cats and dogs on the 3DS.

Majority probably since it was one of the release titles. I didn't get my DS til Pokemon Diamond/Pearl.
Forgot they also did it for the 3DS. I'm still waiting for certain games to price drop or something very enticing before I'll get a 3DS.
