this ain't bad at all, however imho a macro of this kind would deserve the maximum dof you could achieve, that is closing the aperture to, at least, f/16 or f/22 (going f/32 often introduces a noticeable diffraction, but it's worth a try). it's a pity that you have so few of your subject in focus.

hope this helps improving yourself

bye!

Thank you

Unfortunately I can't change the aperature...f5.6 is the lowest it goes with either of my two lenses. I have the standard 18-55mm lens that came with the Canon and I just very recently acquired this 70-300mm lens...which I thought then I would be able to have a better range for aperature but, it seems to be fixed as well I must say I find it ironic that my cheaper less professional camera (a Sony Cyber-Shot) has the ability to change the aperature but that the Canon doesn't and it is very very frustrating to say the least.

I do appreciate your honesty though thanks

got it; however i was saying you should go the opposite way: you should go higher, not lower, to achieve deeper dof. of course, shutter time will get longer, but the deeper dof will be appreciated. if the subject allows you to take photos at lower speeds, give 'em a try.

have a nice week!
