Description *EDIT: Just slightly tweaked the details on the top of his head

*This is NOT a photo-manipulation this is a full on digital painting *

Well...this is my comeback *dusts off DA account* I spent a long time on this painting after being strongly influenced by the owls I work with at the falconer centre (I work with owls the most and the great grey owl catches my heart).

I have no idea how long this took all I know is my hand hurts a lot and my eyes have started to stop working. I really wanted to get back into drawing my own thing after the on-load of college work and well this is it, I didn't want to rush this and also my education has left me with new tricks in digital art and I tried them out in this.

Great grey owls are stunning creatures and its amazing to think that they aren't really that big under all of those feathers, however this makes them top predators because their flight is silent.

Thank you so much for the kind words and comments ! I did try to leave some parts not detailed, to give it away on purpose but I don't think that's worked all to well.

- I believe I spent at least a few days on this piece, however I didn't time this piece like I have with other works in the past.

It's absolutely breathtaking. I can't stop staring at the details wondering how the heck you did it. Your animal art is just stunning! I remember way back when I first watched you and seeing how you've changed and improved since then is just admirable.
There's only one thing really I can point at which gives it away as a digital drawing and not a photo.. the top of the beak doesn't seem as well detailed as the rest, but that's just nitpicking and totally drowns in the awesomness that is this image ^^

-I did leave a few places that aren't as detailed as the rest so it would give it away to not being a photo. (if you catch my drift) I wanted it to be as realistic as possible, however I do like having just the painted aspects within it as well so I didn't do over a few areas as much as the rest.

Well that explains it. It did seem a little odd if it was because you forgot to add more detail or something. I quite like the idea of leaving a "clue" to what type of art it is/what tools have been used.

This is simply amazing, it must have taken you forever! I asked for owls and you definitely delivered! The llama I draw you, however good it will be for my standards, will not hold up to this! You're awesome. And so are great grey owls, I'll never forget flying one....

Thank you so much! , it has taken me at least a few days I know that! also very pleased that you like him. I love all kinds of art and any kind of llama art flies with me just fine . They are very fine birds and need more attention in the art-world I love them.

I used to work with owls at a couple of nature centers. The owl who trained ME was a very calm, experienced Barred Owl.

Because of him, I was able to complete the training of a Broad Wing Hawk, train a blind, epileptic Screech Owl, a Kestrel, and several other Barred Owls. I am highly in awe of birds of prey, and forever grateful to my first owl teacher.

Wow! that is very awesome and interesting , I have only just started at this owl caretaker job and I love it to bits (I'm also allowed to sit in with them and sketch them, they have so much personality).
