With all the stuff floating around at the bottom of the ocean, i can only imagine it would be very difficult for a mermaid to keep her hair free of aquatic things, unless she is constantly tending to her hair in an obsessive-compulsive fashion. At least i know when i find myself underwater, my hair turns into a messy disaster and sometimes i find foriegn objects in it.This here's a close-up of Princess Polly, who is one of my original characters.
EDIT: I just did a few more touchups...because I can't seem to leave this picture alone.

gorgeous colors! i love the concept. i used to draw mermaids without hair (because if they were real, the hair wouldn't be aerodynamic) but they just aren't as pretty bald!

Oh wow, I love the colors~
The oranges, greens, and the tinge of blue in her eyes looks so beautiful. The seashells, fish, and everything else in the picture makes it so interesting to look at.

I found a crab peering at me from somewhere back there amid the neat designy fronds of hair and weed. Looks really good.
Colors: The biggest difficulty with putting traditional art online is that every camera changes the colors - either a little or a lot. I just dicovered that I can apparently change my digital cam settings around to favor certain select colors more. And some pictures are easier than others to fix up colors in photoshop, as I'm sure you know.
Junk: Nowdays so much of what lines the ocean floors is made out of plastic. I don't think you'd want to paint a bunch of bottle caps & wrappers and garbage in her hair though. That would just look...unhappy.

I do some gouache too. Love that stuff. transparent Water colors are gorgeous, but its so nice to be able to "undo" sometimes.
