Β excluding suicide approximately 1.4 million people have been killed using firearms in the U.S. between 1968 and 2011.

It is a fact that the greatest levels of killing took place in countries with gun control. Cambodia, Russia, China, and Germany as well as lessor hellholes all made dammed sure their victims could not fight back before they started their reigns of terror. Always easier to terrorize folks who can't shoot back...........

The author will find evidence to back any argument. Debating may be pointless. I will say though it's harder to kill someone with a knife or baseball bat. It requires the attacker to gain close access. A gun enables all sorts of people to kill. Also gun control isn't limited to just taking away a populous' firearms or limiting who can have them. It limits what kind of weapons and at this later date the prospect of limiting their capacity. Other than entertainment in a more controlled environment (commercial firing range) I don't see a use for more advanced weaponry.

Lastly gun culture provides a lot of bad examples for those who don't need a bad example. Carrying your gun everywhere and using it to prove your self correct when you're angry, playing with a gun like it's a toy, thinking your self a first responder and acting without due consideration of what would be a better response; I'm sure I could go on. And with this last violent police action regarding the killing of a some young black person in a park it seemed to me that the police officers believed more readily that a person was armed rather than not. I don't blame the kid and I do feel the officers and dispatch are at fault but behind that is the fact that the US has a large gun culture. That has an impact on everyone even in a non direct way.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

"Well regulated" refers to the need for order, regulation and discipline amongst the fighting unit, necessary for all fighting forces on the battlefield. What is so hard to understand about that part.... Our current military, is "well regulated."

I know the second amendment goes on about the right to bear arms, but it was written around the same time you could burn your neighbor for being a witch or cross examine a pig in court.

But our military is not a militia. It is a professional armed force.

A militia is not paid, only raised in time of dire circumstance.

"the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." yes the regulation come at the State level. becasue then never wanted people like Obama to attempt to be kings!! the regulation is at the state level. and more importantly is the statement that it would not be infringed. which it is.

"Lunatic" as in a mentally deficient individual that had no business being around firearms to begin with. A failing of the medical institutions in the US.

The school shooting. A gun free zone, where all mass shooting where the mentally ill commit such heinous acts. I haven't heard of any mass shootings at gun shows or shooting ranges. Also, the US has had access to firearms since 1776, but only recently have atrocities like Columbine and CT happened in the last 30 years. I think it's the people and certain policies not working.

sure, that sucks, however Connecticut has some of the tough guns laws, and is predominately liberal Democrat. yet it does nothing form stop a crazy person. Had the school had a cop at the school full time. it would never of happen. Also this kid was on anti psychotic drugs, he had a history of violent behavior however Connecticut laws only allow people to be consider mentally ill after a violent out burst. also considering the last 10 mass shooting are committed in liberal states with strong gun laws, by liberal adult or children of liberal parents, all happen to be on some sort of mind altering anti psychotic drugs. Maybe we should be looking at the drug company and their anti psychotic drugs, and better laws to protect people not from Legal guns but from people with mental illness getting guns. maybe should stop giving out anti psychotic drugs all together because it only affect appears to be an increase in crazy people!!

Everyone should have right to defend themselves.

In my country there is a sick law, according to which you might get punished if you damage the attacker, you have to use defence method appropriate to attacker, for example if you are attacked by someone bare handed, you can't use a knife to defend yourself.. It's even forbidden to have a knife with you, while all those psychopaths have knives, bats, etc and if you are attacked, how you should defend yourself, when it's forbidden to have weapon with you?

If everyone was permited to have a fire arm, the amount of assults would decrese, because everyone will be concious, thet everyone else have a gun, so they will be affraid to attack, because they will know, that attacked person will respond with warfare.

Glamorotica In reply to SF01 [2013-03-20 15:56:18 +0000 UTC]

interesting fact? Switzerland is Europe's gun capital. It has more firepower per person than any other country in the world yet it is said to be one of the safest places on Earth. Also in USA save for the Mexican Cartels Texas as the lowest murder rate. american on american murder rate.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 3

tomorgel In reply to Glamorotica [2013-03-22 00:38:30 +0000 UTC]

Also an interesting fact: Although every Swiss citizen has to keep his service pieces (usually an assault rifle and a handgun) in his own home at all times (and mind you - they don't have a professional army but a conscript army - so essentially everyone has to serve his active and reserve time (women optionally so)), it is highly forbidden and severely punished to use said weapons in personal defense in times of peace. They are property of the state and registered to a point were every fired bullet is immideately recognized. Private property of firearms is strictly regulated. So the per capita rate of firearms is unusually high, but the rate of privately possessed firearms is low even by European standards.
The Swiss is one of the safest places on Earth because its people tend to be well educated, overall wealthy and foremost they tend to not shoot at other people.

by the way the mums a dingo the dads a HUGE american mastiff that has taken holes bigger than my fist from the flanks of a horse and i still cant bring myself to kill it.
