kyuubinu and I have been messing around with our own AU for TMNT! It's set in 199x and is extremely self-indulgent.

Donatello - Does machines - Specifically he has a big interest in engineering, pretty much all things mechanical. He's incredibly smart, but a lack of self-confidence and his neurodivergence make more traditional shinobi things difficult for him. Aside from Mikey, Donnie has a pretty strained relationship with his family, but especially Raphael and Master Splinter. On the other hand, he finds an unlikely friend in one Casey Jones, and the two become almost inseparable.

Leonardo - Leads - Being the most responsible and generally the better student of his brothers, Leonardo was recently made the leader of their group by Master Splinter. However, Leonardo's not exactly thrilled with it-- he's always had trouble with anxiety, and the burden of leadership and emerging threats weight heavily on him. Though he takes his role as leader seriously, Leonardo is still very idealistic and fanciful, even still believing in magic and yokai when his brothers have long outgrown those old fairy tales.

Michelangelo - Party Dude - The most babied brother and a ball of sunshine, Michelangelo is generally the one who keeps the spirits up in the Lair. He's extremely artistic, and is insanely curious about the world above them. He's a surprising powerhouse as well, wielding his nunchaku with expert skill. He tends to be pretty naive, and his brothers are constantly worrying about him, much to his chagrin.

Raphael - Cool But Rude - The strongest of his brothers with a mean streak, Raphael has a tendency to be too rough and a huge bully. He particularly likes to target Donatello. He's of the mind that the world won't coddle his brothers, so he shouldn't either, though perhaps he also uses their training as a way to take out his own frustrations. Despite all of this, Raph and Leo are surprisingly close, and Raphael also seems to have a soft spot April.

Casey Jones - By day, Casey is April and Irma's good-natured friend, captain of the hockey team, and generally just a good dude to be around. By night, however, Casey moonlights under his vigilante persona, "Jones," specifically targeting the Purple Dragons gang. He fancies himself a bit of a mechanic, able to create crude but effective weapons out of sports gear and spray paint.

April O'Neil - Ace student, school paper journalist, and amateur detective, April has a knack for getting herself into trouble. She's driven by a strong sense of justice and an insatiable curiosity, and the recent bizarre crimes happening in New York City have only exacerbated them both. How fortunate it is when she makes some new friends...

Irma Langinstein - Having been friends with both April and Casey for years, Irma's always sort of just followed after them. She's extremely shy and socially awkward, so she often has trouble asserting herself. She's also a huge romantic, consuming huge amounts of books and movies and whatever else she can get her hands on and often escaping into fantasy worlds. (This is precisely why her geometry grade is so low) Though she doesn't think much of herself, Irma is a pillar of support for her friends, and even a great secret keeper....most of the time.

Master Splinter - Hamato Yoshi has kept much of his past away from his sons. They know he's an immigrant from Japan, and a former ninja belonging to an apparently dissolved clan. He originally purchased the turtles as pets, though one day Yoshi found both himself and his little turtles thrust into circumstances beyond his imagining. Once they were mutated, Splinter fled with his four new toddlers into the sewers of New York, where they have remained for the last 15 years. He does the best he can as a single father, but guilt and shame are shadows constantly at Splinter's heals, and they prevent him from fully opening up to his sons.
