"Alright! Brothers and Sisters of the Drow Elfischenreich! On the whistle!"The soldiers looked down at their rifles, making sure they were loaded and ready. A couple of them realizing their rifles were still unloaded and they pushed a clip into their rifles. The officer in front looked at her pocketwatch as it clicked slowly.
"FIX BAYONETS!" She shouted as artillery fire began to pound against the ground of the enemy trenches

Okay so I was originally drawing this image before I doodled this other one here: Awaiting the whistle but I figured I might as well finish this one.
An all drow elf empire. It's just drows. THere might be a few humans and orcs tossed into the mix but it's like 99.9% drows

Teeny-tiny issue: If you're trying to mirror German doctrine during WWI, keep in mind that the German Army more heavily favored the "moving barrage", where shell hits are "walked" up to the enemy in order to provide cover for slowly advancing friendly troops.
This stands opposed to the more distinctly British practice of the "standing barrage", where shell hits are used to "soften up" enemy positions in preparation for a charge, and which seems to be what you're depicting in the description.
Both sides used both sorts of tactics, but the Germans favored the former. It required careful coordination between the guns and the infantry, but this is generally considered to have been worth the effort, since a rolling wave of shell explosions followed by a rush of infantry is much harder to resist than a burst of artillery fire followed some minutes later by an unsupported infantry charge.
