I hear their laughterI hear their games
I feel them closing in on me
I feel the old pain
You can only numb a problem for a short wile
But it slowly returns at some point
Everything has an ending
Everything stops someday
Even the words they say will be forgotten
I'll remember them
But even I will end
What's the point to this?
Things do change
Things get moved around
Things can end up broken
Just like my heart
It's healing now
Oh so slowly
The warmth of kindness helps
But it can't keep away the nightmares
The pain once felt
Burned into my mind
I won't forget
My soul will remember these pains
No matter how long ago
They still are fresh
Fresh blood from my heart
New pains
They happened long ago
Some not so long ago
But I still feel the feelings
Like it was only a few days ago
The deep cuts in my heart reopen
Because things bring back the memories
The warm light doesn't keep them away
How I wish it could
So I hide the pain
Until it stops and vanishes again
But it will return
And when it does I will deal with it
Can you see the pain in my eyes?
Hidden behind my smile?
Maybe you do
Or maybe you don't
But I won't allow anyone to see it
I don't want to share my woes
To see my weakness
Behind the shell I have made
My safety
My home
I have tried to come out of this shell
But I end up with some more bad memories
More nightmares
I can't forget the pain
The pain in my healing, broken heart
Maybe one day it will fully heal
But that takes time
So until that day I won't forget
I may regret
I stay in the shell of my childhood
