Description and I were talking recently about children around the world who are sold into slavery and forced to do all kinds of things, the least of which is working in mills for as little as 3cents a day. Day lillies are beautiful flowers, but just like these children die much too quickly. I encourage everyone to read up on the subject [link] and do what they can to help them in some way. I also hope that more of you will be inspired to do more art to raise awareness for them. Thanks for looking, I hope you guys like it. For the shorties ya'll!

That's so beautiful. It is very sad though about the people forced into slavery with no choice.

Thanks. I don't like it, but it's better for people to know so they can at some point take action to help. I have a co-worker who was a doctor in India and he was taken a walk and a child almost fell on him. The child was dropped from a plane along with others. This happens all over the world, and I hope more artists take an initiative to put up art to help raise awareness.

WOW! It has a simplistic design while its meaning is very complicated. So it's simple yet complex at the same time. I was going for a really complicated design for mine xD It's because I want the picture itself to cause a huge impact on the viewer like the photos from the link in your description......

....however now that I've read the articles in that link, i'm even more depressed =___=. And I never had faith in humanity to begin with so there was no loss there.

Graucus In reply to Fiercelyte [2006-03-07 17:25:08 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the comments on the design BTW. I tend to do things simple to make them as recognizable as possible.

Fiercelyte In reply to Graucus [2006-03-07 18:51:58 +0000 UTC]

=__= i make things complicated for myself. I'm planning on doing a watercolor/ink/acryllic painting. It's not as lighthearted as yours tho. Despite my efforts, it's sort of....grim >3> but not so much, just a little.

It is depressing, but raising awarness means that more will get done. It's rain in a feild.

Graucus In reply to gz12wk [2006-03-07 16:17:05 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, I tried to get more detailed with this one. I went in with a very small chalk and tried to imply the texture that they have on their leaves and petals. I actually used a green BG with lighting to help subtily highlight the flower.

gz12wk In reply to Graucus [2006-03-07 16:27:14 +0000 UTC]

you did a great job.

now, this is my opinion, take it or leave it, I thingk you should work more on getting you lines and edges to look more crisp... not so sketchy.
you could really take this or any other of your work to the next level...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Graucus In reply to gz12wk [2006-03-07 16:36:01 +0000 UTC]

I'll do that next time. I haven't found the best way to get solid lines for my main shapes yet, so I'll work on that. Thanks!

gz12wk In reply to Graucus [2006-03-07 18:32:49 +0000 UTC]

it can be hard... but practice practice practice...

what program are you working in again?

Graucus In reply to gz12wk [2006-03-07 18:51:11 +0000 UTC]

Corel Painter Essentials. It doesn't have a ton of options, but I make due because it's a lot better than MS Paint! I also have this thing....I got hit by lightning and my hands are VERY unsteady. I could never be a surgeon lol. That's why I blueline everything first. It makes it really hard when I'm using my wacom because I cannot make continuos smooth lines.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

gz12wk In reply to Graucus [2006-03-07 18:59:16 +0000 UTC]

you so need PS... the posibilaties are nearly endless.... and you can create lines perfectly with out having to trace them yourself.

so when did this happen? the lightning thing...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Graucus In reply to gz12wk [2006-03-07 19:35:41 +0000 UTC]

When I was 13. I'ld get PS, but the only way I could is if I knew someone with a free copy , but other than that, it's too expensive. I'm used to using MS Paint which is horrible. I used to spend hours changing individual pixels. The programs I have now are dreams come true! Now I want more power, more options, but the truth is, is that will only get me so far. I like traditional art because there's no edit>undo. It shows more genuine skill. I'ld rather be successful with the hard stuff to prove to myself I can do it, and then move to the shortcuts. I think it's better that way.

details and blacks (not sure what yo mean by blacks) will come in time. workingon proportions and gettingthings to look right will help you the most.
