Honestly the shading and texture are quite amazing, but I think you probably should've gone with a better background to better contrast with the Dragon.

Thanks so much! I would've added more to the background had it been a permanent part of the image- but the final piece (still in the works) is fully colored with a transparent background!
I do agree though, perhaps a more striking red with a few extra details would work better c:
