In all seriousness, this is brilliant. Good job!

Hasbro produces children’s toys. The fan sculpts it with all his/her heart to the others.

Dude, your sculpts are actually gonna give me a run for my money! You should check out MY chrysalis sculpt! Only I use different colors of polymer clay so that I only hafta paint the eyes & cutie mark. Also mine are smaller and my Chrys' wings are curved due to the technique I employ to make them, but DAYUM! I still feel slightly inadequate compared to yours! I need to kick about 20% more ass in sculpture.. Muddabucka, you AWESOME!

Oh, and I gave ya a Llama cuz you're so awesome ^_^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Groovebird In reply to DeadHeartMare [2012-08-15 18:58:48 +0000 UTC]

I checked your figure. Looks neat! The difference is rather in our styles. You do it in a totally free style, I'm trying to be as strict as possible to make the forms equal, or at least similar to the series. I'll also give you a Llama.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DeadHeartMare In reply to Groovebird [2012-08-15 20:30:46 +0000 UTC]

Yea, yours does look a little more show accurate because you use armatures and can therefore make the legs & horn super skinny like they should be for her. I hafta work around the parameters of polymer clay which in my experience, armatures get too hot and cause the polymer to bubble & melt, so I use stands & props to keep the figures upright in the oven and because I can't use armatures I'm forced to make the legs thicker or use a sitting position to keep the figure from falling over or sagging in the oven. I can't switch to real clay cuz I don't have a kiln and they're far too expensive for me. Eh, I work with what I got. Thanks so much for the Llama!

Groovebird In reply to DeadHeartMare [2012-08-15 21:17:39 +0000 UTC]

Your works seem very nice to me. I don't use armature, the basic material I use is more or less light, and it can hold it's own weight. Did you happen to try Super Sculpey? I bought a bit for a try, and it works well for me.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DeadHeartMare In reply to Groovebird [2012-08-15 23:14:38 +0000 UTC]

I use the colored Sculpey, call it my sadomasochistic will to challenge myself but I like to paint less so I use colored polymer clay instead. I see that you use insulation materials, it's good to know that that method creates such perfectly smooth lines but I work in miniature, 4 inches or less, the stuff you use probably wouldn't work for my sculpts. I'll just keep doin' what I know and get better & better the more I practice ^_^ Thanks tho! I may try the Super Sculpey for my more complex sculpts!

Oop! My bad.. I know what you mean now and you're right.. I mold moving shifting clay which gives my sculpts just an extra little degree of difficulty.. freeform.. and you carve & sand stiff pieces of material. It WOULD be easier to carve something and not bake it, not worry about it melting, sagging or falling over in the oven.. but I'm just not sure I can aquire the material you use and even if I did, it's another medium that I'd hafta learn when I'm comfortable with clay. I appreciate your WIP pages, I learned quite a bit! Thanks!
