Description I debated on whether to do Athens and Sparta rather than Greece or not and decided ultimately to do so. They're not just cities, they're city-STATES. They had radically different ideas about education that I think would be hard to represent with Greece herself.

That's not a laptop, that's a wax tablet. XD;

School in Athens

Compared to the rest of Greece, Athens had such a high esteem for education that it was known as "the school of Hellas (Greece)". Even poor families could afford to send their sons to school. Boys were expected to receive a well rounded education to prepare them for life as full-fledged voting citizens of Athens. Reading, writing and arithmetic were standard, with any subject the teacher had knowledge of in addition such as science, art, or music. It was also expected that the student be able to recite Homer's Iliad and Odyssey. Classes would be taken to the gymnasium to exercise in the afternoons, living up to the Athenian saying "a sound mind in a sound body".

OHHHHHHH you decided to do Athens and Sparta I'm so happy!!!!!!!!!!!! >w<

Athens' education system is wonderful! It's so similar with the modern academic principle that I have to admit that Athenians indeed have the reason to be proud XDDDD.

Is he using a writing board? What kind of paper does him use, the same kind as Egyptian's?

It is very nice! ...Now if only he'd let girls go to school too... (Only very wealthy women would learn to read and write, and no self-respecting Athenian man would admit that his wife could write!)

He's using a wax tablet- it's basically a sheet or two of wax on a hard surface that is used for writing notes and exercises. It can be rubbed out or melted to erase mistakes or to start a new page. Papyrus was extremely expensive for Greeks too, so they would use wax and occasionally parchment.
