Description Here's the first Scramasax and first long blade I made, a commission from a fellow Deviant

The design is based on a type I from the Wheeler classification.

The blade is hand rubbed up to 800 grit

Details :

43.5cm for a blade of 30.5 cm and 3mm of thickness
Bolsters are in bronze
Handle made from a lovely wavy oak
340 grams

The sheath is made from vegetable tanned leather, wet formed to le blade's shape.
The fittings are made of brass and fastened by copper rivets.

Voici le premier scramasax que je réalise, et aussi ma première grande lame, une commande faite par un Déviant de la communauté !

La forme est de type I selon la classification de Wheeler.

La lame est polie à la main avec une finition "tirée en long" jusqu'au grain 800.

Les détails :

43.5 cm hors tout pour une lame de 30.5 cm et 3mm d'épaisseur
Les mitres sont en bronze
Le manche est fait dans un morceau de superbe chêne ondé.
340gr

l'étui est fabriqué en collet tanné végétal moulé.
Les garnitures sont en laiton, fixées par des rivets en cuivre.

Beautiful knife and sheath. That wavy oak is spectacular, and I love all the brass. But - what keeps the knife from falling out?

The scramasax stays in place just because the sheath is made very close to the sides of the blade and the riveted fittings tend to tighten the whole thing.
I made some test by holding the sheath at the pointed end and shaking it with the scramasax in and it take a bit of time for the sax to fall !
