Description

Happy Monday everyone!!

As I had started it, I though I might as well proceed painting with leftover beetroot juice... it was very hot this weekend, the juice has now started fermenting. It smells arguably better than the fresh juice.

Wow I had no idea beetroot would be this vibrant, I thought it would fade too quickly. It looks so beautiful though, such a gorgeous shade of pink. I'm looking forward to seeing where you take this next! 8D

Hm...would green tea brew up green enough? *scampers off to experiment with her mug of green tea*

They do say that 'art is food for the mind', but this takes it to a whole new level. Such delicate work, it's going to be stunning.

It's getting better and better

And by the way, I love that coaster with the owl on it, and that little origami brush holder Have never seen something like this before, but it's perfect! Is it meant for tht purpose?

Thank you so much!!

The origami brush holder is normally for chopsticks. It's made of porcelain. I bought it at the British Museum in London, but I have seen them in Asian stores elsewhere, too. They are great for this purpose.

The owl coaster is from an artist friend of mine. It was really funny, we are friends on facebook for a while, but I wasn't aware the coaster was done by her (I bought it in a little gallery). She then spotted it on a photo I posted! Small world! She has a lovely selection of them on her website: www.louise-scott.co.uk/station…

Aah, chopsticks! And that's very clever ^^

What a funny story! Her works are really lovely.

It's absolutely beautiful!
Combining the tea and beetroot stains with watercolors, to make the leaves green, isn't an option?

I could try! I will definitely use tea somewhere, I think the warm brown of the tea and the beetroot will look great together.

I bet it will.
Do you know how long the beetroot shade holds? I mean, will it fade easily, or is it a stain that holds its color well?

Honestly, I have no idea! I started the first flower over a week ago, and it hasn't changed in colour since. Although the paint in the glass has, it has become darker and more purple, but on the paper it seems to be stable (for now). I'm not too worried, though, as long as I can scan it before it fades.

Plus.. you can catch a pretty good buzz from it..!

All kidding aside; this is coming along quite nicely.
I'm guessing you will be sacrificing other tubers and roots for the stems and leaves..?

To be fair, I have no idea what to do with the rest of the painting! I really didn't think that through.... I don't think there is anything which will stay green. I had thought of just leaving the stems and leaves in pencil, and use tea on the background and shadows. (As well, I really should work on some commissioned work, but I'm worried the juice will go off so I *have* to proceed with it first. Well, that's my excuse anyway.)

I suppose that could work - or maybe colored pencil?  I do like the tea thing.
Kind of a shame you "have" to work on commission stuff and leave this to the fates.  It's such a lovely piece, I'd really like to see it finished.
But, then, I don't pay your bills, so what I'd like is of no real concern.

I will keep a good thought, in any case.

I tell you what: You pay my bills, and I paint all day what I like! How's that for an idea?!?!

...just kidding, but I so wish I could. If my personal stuff would sell better, that would be the ideal world.

(I thought about green pencil, but that would somehow destroy the idea of just using what I find in the kitchen, and no conventional art materials.)

You know I would, if I could.

Maybe someday.....
