Description Just a quick update on a work in progress. I'm sketching a tiger's backside. It will be the back side of a product, the front will have printed this painting of mine on it:

The goal is to create a front and the matching back to it, like a 3D piece of art. I can't talk about details for the finished product (yet), nor what it is as I don't have the permission, but I will keep you updated.

Firstly, I have to trace the sketch onto one of my large canvases, and paint it. The tiger will be surrounded by lots of bushes and leaves around him, and maybe a few other creatures you would find in the forest to make the scene more interesting. I'm quite looking forward to this, let's see how many little critters I can add to the picture without making it look silly...

*will be moved to scraps later*

Farm Out!!
Can't wait to see the finished product.
[and, methinks, with all the hush-hush secrecy, this is definitely a paying gig. hopefully, it pays well.. ]

No, it's not. I agreed to give all profit to charity! >.< I hope though it will be advertisement for me, and therefor pay out on the long run...

Actually, even though it's a WIP of the back end of a tiger, I actually love it I do love sketches though

Oh, me too! Sometimes, very often actually, I do prefer the sketches over the finished artwork. At least when it comes to my own artwork. I wonder why this is? Maybe because a sketch always leave room for own interpretations? Let's hope the finished painting can live up to my own expectations....

I really was reminded of the first time I printed cards from a painting of mine. The company I owned sent them out to all of our customers for Christmas and no one looked at the signature, and figured out it was done by me. I decided on all future cards the front would read, "I Warren Kachmar painted the picture on the back of this card", and I would have the painting printed there. I do really like how cleanly and perfectly you have drawn this.

Thank you very much!!! Yes, I always try to work out my sketches as accurate as possible. I find it makes the process of the actual painting much easier when the pencil sketch is right and I know what I'm doing.

Oh how frustrating about your Christmas cards! Did you not print information about the work such as the title, size, medium and artist on the back? That's what I normally do.
And this year I might even include the notice that the original is for sale. It seems that people don't understand that I try to make a living of my art and that the comment "oh, very pretty" won't pay my bills....

You're most welcome I agree completely with you about sketches and finished works. If you have a second to look at my scraps [link] you will see a sketch and work in progress pictures of a painting I just finished. Even with much care as I painted it I discovered mistakes and miscalculations in my sketch. On my website I would even use the work in progress pictures to create a short "Making of" movie. If you go here: [link] and click on the "Making of" tab you will see what I mean.

I actually dug one out to see what it said, "Painted by Warren M. Kachmar, Copyright 2005", the second one I did said "Painted by Warren Kachmar (email:warren@warrenkachmar.ca) Western Canadian Artist, Copyright 2007" with the same result. I like your idea of the using it to sell the work, because you are correct, very pretty does not put food on the table.
