That's a very generous comparison, I think all that amazing artwork is in our DNA now, he was a real master of dynamic light and shade wasn't he?

Yeah, he was a fantastic draughhtsman. Should be more of his work available. I've only seen Timeview, and that's only got his 'Who work. Why no Garth reprints? Or his strips, etc, etc

There's an excellent Frank Bellamy blog online managed by a guy called Norman; there's a lot of stuff on there that I've never seen before including a gorgeously atmospheric HOLLYWOOD cover for the RADIO TIMES from the early 70s.

Thing about the Autons, though, is what really scared me was that scene in Spearhead From Space that's just the establishing shots of the plastic doll factory? All those plastic disembodied heads and stuff, NIGHTMARE FUEL.

Yeah, there's some great direction at work there - much more time in the classic series to build suspense etc., all the better for those nightmares!

Too true. My ex-gf said she wasn't as big a fan of the classic series because the pacing was slower, but having seen nearly every episode ever made, I find a lot of the new series moves too fast XD

(The number of times a classic series cliffhanger has actually left me, like, shouting BUT NOW WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN? at my television...)

Indeedy! I'm so spoiled by DVDs now that I just bingewatch everything, so when I actually have to wait a week between episodes (or months waiting for the new series to begin!) I get so anxious!
