Your friend looks sort of sinister there. I like the coloring quite a lot. It seems like everybody you hang out with wears Victorian era looking clothes. That's got to be an interesting school.

Oh yes. Even more interesting is that we all usually speak in Victorian English. For serious, quite indeed.

ha ha. Yeah, I don't think I could do that. I'd start laughing all the time and break the spell. How do you laugh in Victorian English?

"Har Har. Good show. Very well done, indeed."

So you actually pronounce the "Har har."? What about hilarious laughter. Do you just say the "Har Har" louder, or does that warrant a third "Har"?

A third "Har" should suffice.
Oh man, I just did a photo shoot yesterday where I modeled in full victorian garb in a victorian studio. I look much classier than what I really am. Har, har , har indeed.

Oy, I forgot to tell you earlier. These look great. I have to say that there are a couple of pics where your boyfriend looks a little jaded though. ha ha. I get the impression he ends up modeling for your art a lot.

ha. Yeah. I'd probably recognize the guy if I saw him on the street. I can't say that I pity the guy though. I definitely wouldn't mind being a muse for a bit. That's got to be an ego trip.

Never thought about it that way....must be why he doesn't complain for too long when I ask him to dress in a costume for source photos.
In college he used to hang out with all of us in the studio and modeled for a few of us...so when the big student show came around, his image was everywhere. He would go stand by the big paintings of him in the same pose just to see if anyone looking at the art would notice.

Gorgeous job, those paintings you posted-all of them, caught my eye.
I'm not used to seeing oil paintings here, everyone's going digital now! But this is just beautiful, i can't keep my eyes off it.
Truly, i think it's a great piece.

Well...watching the Harry Potter movies for the first time is a most excellent excuse! How'd you like them? I like the first two the best--because I go nuts for the digital grading in them. There's an increasing tendency for certain types of almost-real-but-not-quite colors to be used in films--and I adore it, when it's done well. All colors are saturated, skin tones are rich, pinky-peachy colors (lots of lovely salmon added!)...blue eyes are impossibly, heartbreakingly blue...cheeks have delicate roses in them, and lanscapes are dominated by rich, rich greens, with a bit of magenta added to keep them from looking fake.
Movies that come to mind with that style are the first two HP movies...Love Actually...all Hobbiton scenes in LOTR...King Kong...but as I said, more and more of them are using the style, and it really makes me happy.
The later HP films used completely different styles--and I didn't care for it as much...
This coming Sunday works for me! Can't wait!
And congrats on your new find! That sounds lovely!!! I wish I could help you with ideas for how to get the old, ugly paint off...but I'm clueless. I'm afraid I'm more of the "paint over" school, if I'm not happy with the original finish (or re-leaf, in this case! ). I never do understand, though, why people do daft things like cover gold leaf with gold paint! Huh????
(And glad you liked that photographer! She literally takes my breath away!)

I liked them a lot. I had seen the first one a couple years ago and wasn't that crazy about it, but I remember that I has watched it with a bad attitude...so I figured I'd be a little more open minded now. I could definitely see the difference between the first 2 and the 3rd (I have yet to see the 4th)...but a different director did them, so I'd expect them to be different. It's weird though...I tend to like films that have a muted color...raw and earthy...especially with blue tints. Perhaps that's why I felt so compelled to paint Snape...every scene around him was so dismal...haha.

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed them--there are some movies that you really *ought* to see--books you *ought* to read, whether you like them or no--because they've just added something really incredible to our culture. The Harry Potter books and movies definitely fall in that category.
I can understand your liking muted colors in films...with those blue tints...in which case, you'd definitely like the third and fourth movies, better--if you get off on colors in the same way I do, anyway! I've always been a sucker for jewel tones and pure, bright, rich colors..so this new type of digital porcessing just thrills me to no end. The skin tones, more than anything...although it's all nice--but definitely the skin tones thrill me to no end.
(Had to laugh at your "not having the right attititude" the first time around--I get that way, too! Sometimes it's not being in the right place in my life...sometimes it's having too high of expectations (Return of the Jedi--my expectations were MUCH too high for it, when it came out--and I hated it. Later, when my expectations were lower, I was able to enjoy it properly...)
I do like some other types of digital grading...the delicate, muted tones of "Girl with a Pearl Earring"...the palette used in "Possession"...in addition to the pinky/salmon skin thingie, Peter Jackson also used a really cool effect in LOTR and King Kong, where all the "bad guys" would be in desaturated cool tones...while the good guys were more saturated, and warmer looking. Very effective way of creating an eery effect...a chilling effect...also really liked the way they lit that film, in post-processing--with a sort of glow around people's eyes--very cool!
I SOOO want an Autodesk Lustre system for the amazing control it gives you over your final images...unfortunately, it's not just software, but an entire workstation with all kinds of special controls--and is something like $120K...and oddly, I don['t happen to have that kind of cash floating around.
BTW--GREAT news!!!! My fancy graphics monitor has been languishing at the repair place for like three weeks now...and I was told last week that it would be shipped out last Tuesday...which meant I should've gotten it back yesterday. Only I didn't.
So I called today--only to discover that no one knew what was going on with it, and, in fact, NOTHING had been done to it! I was furious, and pointed out that I had clients waiting on orders, and had told them I'd start work on them today--so the guy who I spoke with put me on hold for a while, then came back and told me that the problem was apparently that they don't make that monitor anymore, and this tech guy arranged for them to upgrade my monitor to the next model up--which just happens to have a CRT gamut (12-bit color!!!)--and they're shipping it out next day air to me!
YAY!!!
The bad news is, it doesn't have any USB ports on it--and I used the ones on my old monitor...and it always takes quite a few tries--and several hours of trial and error, to calibrate a new monitor properly--particularly when you've got two, and need to get the luminence in synch, as well...so I won't just be able to plug it in and start working on back orders...but hey, all things considered, I'd say they're doing a good job of making a ticked off customer happy!
(And can't wait to see the new monitor--it was about $500 more than the one I bought, when I bought it a year and a half ago, although today, it sells for the same price I paid for my old monitor...but it's definitely a step up for me...and it will continue with the other's original warranty--so it's got another year and a half to go on it! )

The 4th...really suffered from trying to fit a HUMONGOUS book into two hours. They left out SO much that it's scary...and, well, it's a bit forgettable, IMHO. The book, however, is extremely good--one where a LOT of stuff goes on, and the story really moves forward at a rapid pace.
It would've easily made two movies--or one, that's three hours long.
And yeah, I'm pretty psyched about the monitor--although sadly, they wouldn't let the concierge sign for it...so I'm going to have to take a cab to go pick it up, Saturday morning, instead of having it to play with tonight. RATS! It seems that FedEx won't allow the receiver to have the delivery moved to another address--the sender has to do it...and I won't be able to reach the sender until tomorrow--so I wouldn't get it til Monday, I believe, if I went that route--and I HAVE to start editing this weekend--so that's not an option.
Ah well--a small price to pay, overall! If you're real nice to me, maybe I'll let you see in on Sunday...
