Mixed media: pastel, watercolors, and charcoal.

Don't ask because I don't know. Art therapy is a funny thing.

I absolutely love the colors. And just...everything. This is one of those pieces that I look at and I can't quite look away because I love it so much.
The brush strokes and the bones are perfect.

That's an interesting take on it. I just went back and read what I had written about this intermodal transfer and this drawing was more about strength, structure, and self-protection (the imagery of a spine being our central structural component as well as a symbol of conviction--someone who is spineless is a coward. The rib cage as the protection of our vitals--primarily our heart).
It's always interesting to see what others take from it though.

Er, did I read up there that you've already started working on Halloween costumes? Anything you'd care to talk about yet? (She says, wondering if a photo opp is there, somewhere... )

That is one SCARY looking sunflower!!! I'm glad I don't have any in my room, now!!!! I like it...it's got a Tim Burton feel to it, just a hair...

Yes--I've been putting together Halloween costumes for the past couple of weeks. I figured I should do the bulk of the work now before I start class....that way I won't be stressed out later. I don't think the costumes are photoshoot worthy...unless you want to be a REAL nerd about it. I decided to be an adult and retire my Lara Croft costume since short shorts and 'emerging professional' don't mix. So taking a more conservative route, Chris and I are going to be Slytherin students since we can both incorporate bits of the costume into our daily wardrobe (multi-taskers are always a good thing and I tend to wear button up shirts with ties and sweaters to work anyway), it's the type of costume I could get away with wearing in public without drawing too much attention, and it's easy enough to put together...or at least I thought....I can't find a plain dark grey v-neck women's sweater to save my life! A friend of ours is also dressing as a Hogwarts student (he opted for Ravenclaw) and he works at the Gap so he found himself and Chris PERFECT sweaters that he got with a discount. And you know me--I have to get things as accurate as I can. I've been making all the accessories and having a blast doing it. I may also get a black wig for Chris and make him be young Snape (the wig wouldn't be necessary if he didn't cut his hair!!!!) Regardless, we're all going to look really cute

Yes...I can see the problem with "emerging professional" and "Lara Croft". A shame, that! Do you suppose that's what Paul meant, when he wrote, "I have put away childish things?"

Have you tried eBay, for the sweater? It would be a pain, to search for...but I bet you could find it there, for a song...

I think your costumes sound fun--and if you wind up wanting to do an impromptu shoot of them for posterity (bring the friend, if you like!)--just something quick (okay, with maybe a LITTLE bit of a set--but just a smidge! ), let me know--I'm sure we can work something in! (And you're just not going to let Chris' hair go, are you? Poor guy--I get the feeling he's going to be paying for this one long after it grows back! )

In my case, it would be "I have put away slutty things"

I've tried EVERYWHERE for the sweater...if it's the right cut, then it's not the right color. If it's the right color, it's 3/4 sleeves. If it's not 3/4 sleeves, it's not a V neck. Seriously, this shouldn't be this hard.

I'll talk to the guys and see if they're up for some wizard posing just for the hell of it. Hahaha. I think piles of books for a set would work.
I was actually going to do a self portrait in my costume just cos I thought it would be funny.

And no. Chris will never live down his ill fated hair cut!!!!

You have a way of saying the FUNNIEST things, out of the blue!!!

I see what you mean, about the sweater! Here're a few I found on eBay, though:

(I just *like* the last one--I realize it's not even close to what you're looking for! )

The prices range from reasonable to "you've got to be kidding!", and they're probably not right either, but I figured I'd pass 'em on, anyway...

And yeah, I think an HP set would be a cinch, given the stuff I have lying around here. Although once again, I'm sure we could do with a skull or two!!!

I think a self-portrait would be a great idea...but a shot or two in Slytherin with your Snape in the background would be awesome!

Poor Chris. Such is life in a relationship! There are some things that you just CAN'T live down!

It's funny because as soon as I sent you that last message, I found exactly what I was looking for: [link]

I think an HP shoot would be the funniest thing ever. We should do it just to hang out and have a laugh. Haha.

Athansor In reply to hever [2007-09-04 17:31:59 +0000 UTC]

How PERFECT!!!! Glad you found one--at a reasonable price!!!

And I'm with you--I think an HP shoot would be light, fluffy, not too hard to put together, no real pressure to produce anything "great" out of it--just a few good shots--and it would also be an excuse to hang out, as well. Talk to the guys--see what they think...we could probably squeeze something in the weekend before Halloween, don't you think?

I can so imagine Chris saying that, too!!!

Talk to the guys about which day is better--and then I'll block it off for you!

And tell Chris not to be a sissy--this won't be NEARLY as bad--no huge set, for one thing!

Haha--I'll talk to them and see what day will be best. I know I have to go home the week of the 22nd, but I should be back by the weekend...

This is going to be too funny.

Excellent. Definitely seems to have an almost scarecrow theme without actually having a scarecrow. You really did a beautiful job on the rib cage.

Let me guess... is Halloween your favorite holiday?

That's funny because I actually drew this last December.

Well it's nice to know that you are keeping Halloween in your heart all the year. I love that holiday too! Lately where I'm from the holiday has definitely degraded though. Nobody dresses up anymore!

It's a shame, it is. I couldn't celebrate last year because I had to work at my internship (although I can say that I spent Halloween at a psychiatric facility) and all year I had a void in my soul. So this year, we're actually going to do something. I've already started working on costumes.

Oh, last year we did that awesome Zombie BBQ where my friends and I all dressed up like Zombies and BBQed burgers over a burn barrel. It was perfect.

I really need to figure out my costume this year. It would be a crime against humanity not to dress up.
