Something very important I've been meaning to get out for people to see regarding their plush toys.

Technically these plush are not 'fake' Hoppy Hopsters as they are made by Dan Dee and sold in Walmarts like the classic Hoppy Hopsters were. But these are later model ones that are of different shapes and or smaller sizes.... later models created when Walmart decided to cheapen the build and materials of their stuffed animals in order to save on production costs! Most notably they are all made of whats called "rat-hair". A very cheap plush fur Walmart started using in the late 2000's.

Rathair is thin, sparse, you can look at it and see straight through to the fabric underneath. The fur seems soft to the touch, but it picks up body oils quicky and soon becomes matted and greasy in texture if cuddled a lot. It also falls apart easier than classic plush fur and frays much easier too. It was a cheap alternative for Walmart and they found that people still ended up buying. It was so successful that the use of this material spread beyond Walmart to nearly every department store and eventually nearly every plush maker in the USA. Even the Dinsey Store has been using rat-hair or more commonly felt nowadays for all their new plush. No longer do plush have quality plush fur anymore.

Anyways, the best thing to do is encourage people not to buy new stuffed animals if you are concerned about this. Unless they are not made of this thin stringy material nor are just made of felt. Try and buy plush toys that are made of quality plush fur. Which the best way to tell is though density. The more dense the better the material and usually the more durable it is too. There are arrows on the plush pictured above highlighting the good plush fur on the cheeks and paws and the cheap junk rat-hair that makes up the body. I hope that is informative.
