Colours are the only thing that I can see really well but I'm not the best at judging what a colour would look like in greyscale

Oh yeah, I agree--it's pretty hard to tell what a value will come out as. If you use photoshop (or any other software that can do this), you should try painting out random things in grayscale, (or even use a picture and set it to grayscale), and then use a new layer and set the mode to "colour" and paint on top with colours. The colours might come out kind of desaturated, but you can adjust the hue/saturation after merging the colour and grayscale layers together
Β Just testing stuff out is a good idea to get used to it! I'm not very good with colours, so this is the method I generally use n.n

I think I would have an easier time drawing the image in colour and then removing the colour by messing with the saturation, that way I have a grayscale version and a colour versionΒ
