Description With a maximum size of 80 cm Mane rails are the biggest flightless birds of Pyrungata. They are generalists, living in open forests, swampy meadows and near mangrove forests, besause of their size, and their strong claws they are no prey for smaller predators, and even the bigger have sometimes difficulties.
They can be found today on Scida and Lacarta, but subfossils indicate that they were widespread on Pyrungata a few thousand years ago.
Males and females have both the typical mane, which gave this species the name, but only males have the reddish cap. Juveniles have a plumage with lower contrast and more spots.

Oooo, truely inspiring! I don't know if this is too early to ask, but do the flightless azharchids eat these guys?

Hyrotrioskjan In reply to Whachamacallit1 [2012-09-18 00:05:30 +0000 UTC]

It's not to early
No, this guys are to big to be eaten by an azhdarchid, they preffer smaller prey and plants.

They are very big for a island like this, the only way to survive with this limited resources was to become a generalist.
