It's been a while since I've drawn Marvin, so here he is. I'm starting to get back into backgrounds again, it seems. I hope the next one is more exciting than a boring old swamp.Criticism welcomed!

Can't believe I hadn't commented on this one. I remember it, and really like it. Particularly the face, it really gives him character.
And it's not like the background is bad. I would just add some more layers to it and slowly fade them into the background. It adds depth and detail, and because the elements are softer with each layer they don't get too distracting.

Love the background and the smooth colors. My suggestions would be to try to make his chain mail look more metallic, and get the vines hanging from the trees in the bg to be more rounded. Also, try adding a little shading around the squared sections of the belt/strap, something to give it a little more depth.. or perhaps just lighten the outlines a tad. Aside from that... really awesome piece here. I like it very much

I thought of Robin Hood (Disney) when I saw the thumbnail, but he is much more awesome than Robin Hood ^_^

it looks very nice. the belt and strap look kinda weird though, i would suggest making them flat perhaps with a buckle of some sort. anyway, i would also suggest carrying a knife for him, chainmail is protection for swipes, which would mean if under attack he would need something to strike back at close range. anyway, it looks great!

...Now that I think about it, chain mail isn't very practical if you're trying to sneak around the place. It would be pretty load, yes?

hee hee, yeah, also, the way it's drawn, it look more like plate mail than chain mail, for chain mail it's best to draw the full circle of each link. btw, sorry for the delayed response XD how about leather armor?

A 'boring swamp' can nevertheless be moody and well-fitting, as in this case it goes very well with the pose. Perhaps a subtle ground fog around his feet might help 'wrap' the background around the character a little more, but that's more of a suggestion than anything else. Great stuff

Beautifully done!! He is so nice looking with a good handsome face! He looks very cautious, listening to the faintest of suspicious sounds ^_^ Love the unique hunting outfit, including the shawl. And the foggy background provides good contrast and a feeling of danger. Beautiful work!

I dunno, I've always seen overly elaborate backgrounds as distractions from the characters in the picture; however, they can be great if they are the focus.

That's a good point. Sometimes I like doing overly detailed backgrounds along with the character, you just gotta find a balance so it doesn't overpower too much I guess

It reminds me of the classic animated Robin Hood...I loved that movie...
I love the whole character, but one side of the bow looks like a recurve bow and one doesn't. And the handle doesn't seem in the center. He could be holding it there, just move that red part.

That's funny, when I first drew this character he looked so much like Robin Hood it was scary. I'm trying to get away from that, but I guess not enough apparently
