I used to think that Watership Down was the most depressing animal centered movie ever. After watching Ringing Bell (Chirin No Suzu) I no longer think that…. This movie broke me. As a testament to just how haunting the story, themes and visuals were, I made this entirely from memory alone. It’s very rare for me see something which has such a huge impact that the images are instantly lodged in my brain. I don’t think I need to ever watch this again as it’s so perfectly recorded, that’s how powerful it was.
I recommend it to anyone who really wants to be depressed and get emotional whiplash from the shift in tone about halfway through…
But seriously, this movie is an exquisite, terrible piece of brilliance and you should watch it.Related content

you know when I first watched this movie, I honestly don't know how old I was. 2? 3? maybe even younger but I probably got it cause at the time I loved sheep but the movie scared me so bad I didn't watch it again for a long time and then I randomly came across it on youtube and my god I cried when I watched it again. but I loved it so much, I don't know why but I see where you're coming from, it is a really depressing movie. amazing job on this by the way.

I read this before I decided to watch the movie and it had me expect something depressing and worse than watership down. I loved the movie a ///lot/// but not even close to a little depressing, bambi's mother death did worse, hell even one stormy night was more depressing. Movie was great but after reading this, whole time watching it I was expecting bloodshed and heart pangs XD
Granted, I dont even like watership down so this is way better-
