I loved The Neverending Story movie as a kid but it wasn't until very recently that I read the novel on which it was based. I was surprised at just how different it was and how much more abstract the story is. It was certainly dumbed down in the adaptation and I highly recommend reading it if you're a fan. The description of Falkor in the book is quite a contrast to his movie appearance; he is more catlike and very pink. This is how I pictured him while I was reading. I want to hug the floofy cat dragon.Related content

They really made the movie(s) different from the book. I enjoy both but wish they had used certain parts from the book more than others.

I remember finding the book at the library not even realizing that the movie was based on a book. It's now one of my favorites, it's crazy how where the first (and only good) never ending story book ends is only halfway through the actual book.

The second film sort of adapts the last half of the book but not very well.
