Description A young Peregrine falcon

~To whom it may concern, (please read before accusing me of anything!)
NONE of the animals I work on are killed for the purpose of taxidermy alone and most are found along side the road or come from bird/animal breeders in the area.

I am a permit holding and fully registered taxidermist

Poor little thing, sad that he died so young but you did a great job on him! I never realised how huge their feet are, this really puts them into perspective!

Neat - you can tell from that mottled plumage that he's still a young fellow. Was this a falconer's bird? I ask because of the leg rings... unless, of course, you added those as an extra touch during the mounting process.

Nope, he was a wild one. The leg ring is from the research stations around the country that monitor them

Very cool! Too bad the little guy didn't make it to adulthood, but you did a great job with the taxidermy.

I should let you know that it is illegal to own Peregrin Falcon bones, feathers, etc. because it in an endangered animal in North America. Unless it is an antique piece of 50 years or older with papers.

I'm well aware of these U.S laws and regulations, but I'm fortunate enough to be based on the island Ireland m'dear. Under European law my taxidermy paperwork all adds up and my legal logs of everything do allow me to work on these fabulous specimen.

It happens, especially when talking about species that one sees in their own country, such as peregrines and barn owls in North America. It's hard to keep track of which species are limited to US-only ranges and which are found around the world. I always forget how absurdly extensive the Peregrine Falcon's range is.

Normally I don't see stuffed animals, but when I see them they're usually ugly or they are misshaped, but this one looks likes it's just a real one!
Nice you don't use animals killed for taxidermy

I've honestly never seen anyone better at taxidermy. You really brought this guy back to life; he's beautiful.

I see a couple peregrine falcons occasionally where I live, but I can only ever get a glimpse of them. XD They're so fast (of course.)

This specimen had some bad freezer burn, so the talons are a bit dried in and couldn't be fixed. But other than that he is looking great

Out of curiosity, how do you care for these over time?

Being organic material, I would think it'd have a predisposition to decay even after it's treated. Of course, then I think of things like leather jackets which have few problems with decomposition, LoL. I guess that's more removed from the actual animal sitting on your shelf, though.

Once the skin has been tanned with taxidermy tanning it will keep for a LONG time. Many Victorian pieces are still here today, and as you said we have found leather shoes for medieval times!

If kept right, these pieces of taxidermy should last indefinitely
