Description I use the term loosely because I changed very little. Gwangi has such a simplistic design that pretty much every detail is important to making him himself.

While watching Valley of Gwangi at like 3:00 this morning (err... yesterday morning by now, I suppose), The-Great-MM and I got talking about things we'd do if we were to do a remake. One was for the paleontologist to explain Gwangi's ungodly tough hide. That kinda got me thinking about justifying other aspects of his design.

Notable traits
-The Neck: One thing I always liked about Gwangi is his insanely muscular neck. I kept it in this design, as having a muscular neck would be great help in subduing large, powerful prey.

-Thick Hide: Gwangi's hide was nigh-impenetrable in the movie, so that would obviously have to carry over to the new version. The reasoning is simply that a thick hide would protect him from all the various pointy implements many dinos have at their disposal. The idea we had was that, instead of Gwangi, the cowboys would first be chased by a pack of raptors. Gwangi would then appear and the raptors would attack him, but their claws would just cause tiny scratches that wouldn't even bleed. Gwangi'd catch one in his jaws mid-leap.

-Armor: The original has croc-like armor scutes, and they're just a cool little detail that helps distinguish him. But to add onto that, I gave him actual armor scutes on his shins.

-Retrosaur Stace: Okay, Gwangi NEEDS this. Period. I'd justify the tripod stance by saying it's more stable than the standard horizontal stance.

-The Tail: Again, just a neat little detail that distinguishes him.

-Lips: Yes, Gwangi has lips. He can snarl. They need to stay. Not real happy with how the "lip scales" came out in this though...

Aside from the shin armor, the only thing I really changed was slimming down his torso a tad.

Looks good to me! Overall, a terrific "redesign" of the dude.

The lips do look a bit strange in this pic, but they definately need to stay, as that snarling was really very scary.

Looks a tad too thin to be a dulldozer-dino.

very nice.

To be fair, nowadays, it is widely accepted that dinosaurs had lips. Probably nothing like ours, but definately had lips.
