Description
This here is Bun-Bun the Mini Lop from the webcomic Sluggy Freelance. He's cute, fuzzy, loves Baywatch, carries around a switchblade and a glock, and is one evil little SOB. Oh, and he likes alfalfa hay. And he is feared by telemarketers everywhere....Sound interesting? Read Sluggy Freelance. [link] But start from the beginning...and since it started back in 1997, allow a LOT of time.
As for why I drew this...other than my Sluggy worship...I mean, Bun-Bun's always been one of the best characters, not necessarily my absolute favorite. But I'd been drawing Wolpertinger from "C'est la Mort" and was in a bunny mood...and I thought, "hey, why not try doing that Photoshop technique where I just pile layer upon layer of shading and try to make it look slightly realistic?!"
I gave it a shot.

Nice work though, hun! The shading is really good and I love the shine on the shiv. lol I go pet him if I wasn't so sure he'd cut my eyes out. Oops!

The method works fine and you rendered the proportions believably, at least that's what I can say from what I see. Lots of it just disappears in the smudge/blur though (I don't know whether you actually do that, it just looks like it). Sharper jaggy lines around the border, where the colors meet and at the shaded areas probably would make it look more realistic for a fur effect.

Yeah, if I wanted it to look COMPLETELY realistic, I would have gone about it differently...but I wanted to retain the cartoonish quality. Hence "slightly" realistic.
