So, i had this idea of doing a... sort of Evil Animated Ladies 30 Day challenge, basically drawing villanous female characters from animated movies or tv series. I pretty much have the list completed but i'm open for suggestions if anyone has some...The first one was supposed to be Zira, but i was having some art-asthenia and i couldn't draw anything right, not even when i switched to a doggish-like character like Shenzi. Mercifully, a good night's sleep solved it and i was able to doodle the hyena.
It was only supposed to be sketch material, but i was having so much fun with the shading and lighting i went overboard and slapped a background and everything.
So there, Our Dark Ladies nΒΊ 1: Shenzi from The Lion King.

By the way...
I watched The Lion King over and over again when I was a child, and it took me a looong time to realize that Shenzi was a female!
It is still weird nowadays to think that it is a "she"!
I think that the voice used in the brazillian version was somekind of androgenous...

Really? I guess it doesnΒ΄t really matter much but i do like the fact that they made the female (Shenzi) leader, since hyenas (at least the spotted ones) live in matriarchal societies, where the leader is always a female.

suggestion for your next and the lighting I think would probably be fun on it since she's a sea creature...The sea witch from Little Mermaid Ursela (spelling i know)

DA might have messed with the colors a little bit if you saved it as a PNG. It does that to PNGs. They're DA's favorite flavor...

D'awww! Thank you! Your gorgeous shading inspired to try something different from boring 'ol cell. And i love it! It's less... "definitive", it leaves room for a lot of nuances.

Yeah, Disney always makes sure there are conveniently placed platfrom-like formations, just in case a character starts singing.
