Description A design I came up with after hearing the news that King Ghidorah, Mothra and Rodan will be featured in the sequel to the 2014 Godzilla film by Legendary.

This is my prediction/attempt at drawing what King Ghidorah might look something like in the sequels. It stands roughly twice as tall as the Legendary Godzilla.

I do not own the character.

Although the movie is out, I really enjoy this design. The biomechanical aesthetic gives this Ghidorah a lanky, yet powerful build and with a shiny gold color would be an amazing design. Question, is this Ghidorah a Gravity Master or does he manipulate electricity?Β

Why re-do this based on what we now know of his design from the trailer and SDCC poster?

A bit too lanky looking. Ghidorah has to come off as the ultimate sword of Demacles.Β  Embodiment of Armageddon itself

This makes more sense in from a realism stance, though. I've seen Ghidorah's films and he's way too bulky to be standing, much less flying. Even his wings, while huge, are too small for a body like that.

He can manipulate gravity, which is how he flies, and could also account for him being chunkier than you might expect. Besides, the vast majority of Toho kaiju are way too bulky to realistically stand.

Well actually I want him to look like a three headed viperfish in the new movie, and being aquatic rather than flying, coz we already have Rodan and Mothra. But yours already has the realistic appeal in it

Two reasons why that's a bad idea. 1. Toho would never allow their monster to be changed that drastically and 2. the fans would eat Gareth Edwards alive if he went that route. It would be a repeat of Zilla Sr and Toho would never trust Legendary with their kaiju again.

Ghidorah is defined by being a golden, three-headed dragon from space. Old fans like the new Godzilla because he's still recognizable as such. They will expect Ghidorah to remain the space dragon he has always been. If you want an aquatic dragon kaiju in the Legendary films, you're better off hoping that they bring Manda in someday. Highly doubtful, though, even for the third film. Manda doesn't have the kind of star power that kaiju like Big G, King G, Rodan, and Mothra have.

But how to make him realistic? A reptilian space-faring lifeform that can place itself in a concentrated energy form in a meteorite is quite umm.. absurd. Or maybe they should also explain it's creator and that Ghidorah is some sort of a genetic memory/copy of a long lost species. So he is basically a functioningΒ  bio-hologram. Well, i guess that will amke it (him?0 even more absurd...

Big G is hardly realistic himself. Something his size couldn't set foot on land without crumbling under his own weight and yet he does. All the time. Same for his atomic fire. It looks believable because that's the willing suspension of disbelief at work. The only thing realistic about him is the fact he finally looks organic.

Realism isn't the issue here. The issue is what long time fans want out of Legendary!King Ghidorah. They want a golden, three-headed dragon from space so that's what we're likely going to get. They could probably take out his space-faring but there was only one film where he didn't come from space: Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah. That film, he started life as three separate creatures known as Dorats and the nuclear bomb turned them into King Ghidorah. They could go that route for him in Godzilla 2 but at the moment, I believe he'll be what he was in a majority of films he appeared in: a space dragon.

Edwards gave us a recognizable Godzilla that not only stuck to his roots in appearance but was also streamlined to look like a living animal. You can't drastically change Ghidorah into something he never was and expect people to be okay with it. They will not. Rodan will likely be flying as supersonic speeds in Godzilla 2 like he's done in the past and I can't think of a single bird in the real world that can do that.

Yep, something like him is possible if they are completely aqhuatic

And yet, you can't tie kaiju down with real world physics. That's what dinosaurs are for.

Great design, but I really think you need to bulk out his legs.Β  They look VERY scrawny.

I'd agree but I was trying a more realistic look I prefer the bulky legs as you do, but realistically it wouldn't be able to fly with legs like that. I might do it on another design though.
