(c) 2007 Iseekreality DesignsI really love these guys. Bats are definitely underappreciated creatures. I do feel bad about flashing them with my camera.
I hope to take more bat pictures in the future, with the golden shot being an in-flight shot.

These are actually new world fruit bats. Probably the Artibeus Jamaicensis species.

Those are horseshoe bats, aren't they?
Bats are beautiful creatures. It's a real shame there is so much negative stigma attatched to them. They're important to the food chain, especially where certain plants and insects are concerned.

Are they horseshoe bats? I have no idea! I have to admit that I am pretty inadequate when it comes to identifying bats by sight. I wish that I knew for sure.
Bats are indeed beautiful. I was so excited the other day when I saw the first several of the season out feasting on bugs. They're a welcome sight to my eyes! It might sound a little lame, but I am thinking about checking into whether there are bat clubs nearby so that I can learn more about them.

That's not lame! Bats are highly underappreciated. I saw a litte brown bat roosting in a porch umbrella once. He would have stayed there, but unfortunately we had to use the umbrella, and he promptly flew away the moment it was opened. The Wikipedia might have some good links to bat sites.
