I did a small bit of research on Ammit back in grad school. Turns out that the chymeric character of Ammit had to do with several constellations in the Northern sky. There are "Western" counterparts, including stars from Hercules, Corona Borealis, Bootes, and Draconus in the constellation of Ammit. Hercules is most likely where the feline aspects come from, while the hippo and croc span all three. The free app, Stellarium, provides an interesting visualization of this overlap.Β

I should add: I note that your style reflects a somewhat "realist" approach, which suggests that you admire the classical masters to some extent. What would reflect an even stronger understanding of their style would be to find a way to incorporate the astronomical forms into the composition of your work.

This has so many focal points that I don't know where to look first! It has magical/ fantasy qualities but at the same time a pinch of horror and typically overwhelming to look at. I feel like if I tried to observe it more than a few moments that I will probably have nightmares over it. The overall concept is interesting though and I'd love to learn more about it.
