Description Watercolor on cold-pressed 140 lbs, 5" x 7", August 2012.

Even though these flowers grow everywhere in my little corner of the world, I had the hardest time identifying them. Finally, though, I placed them as Oenothera berlandieri, or Mexican Evening Primrose.

These turned out to be much tougher to paint than I anticipated - their pale hue was difficult to properly capture and even more difficult to properly shade. Not the best I've done, but I can live with them. And as usual, the green leafy background proved to be the bane of my existence. *shakes fist in frustration*

Lovely painting! Even if a lot of things were frustrating to paint, it came out well. I really like how the flowers contrast against the muted colors of the foliage without being too bright. I think you caught the essence of these unique flowers beautifully.
