it's a program called Flash (that's why they call them flash animations) it's basically a simpler way to animate. you can program with it too just like any other programming language (like I've done here)

anyway, it's like 3 or 4 hundred bucks but I can give it to you if you like.

I like it as is but others have mentioned trains and planes and aoutomobiles and i think that if you did end up doing that having a plane in the day and a train every night would look goofy i think it would be cooler if the trane and plane went around once every couple of hours day and night. offset from eachother. thats just my opinion on that

I really should comment more on your stuff but usually I can't think of anything more intellegent to say then "that is damn cool" and everybody in their brother posts "that is damn cool" so I feel dumb writing that. so once ad for all for all things on your site past and future "THAT IS DAMN COOL".

Now that is out of the way I can just enjoy your art.

the music is nice, where you get it?
Man, this is wicked, I like your approach to flash... simple tasteful, original ideas.
Maybe some twinkling stars, that rotates a bit, very slow at night? moon? some traffic cars yes.... traffic lights at night, changing? If you've ever seen the movie Baraka theres a really nice time lapse bit with traffic.... it looks like a city breathing, the cars stopping and going all at once on a regular basis

IvoryDrive In reply to eriksucks [2005-09-11 20:55:52 +0000 UTC]

yeah, I would love to do one of these with animated cars from an aerial view, but who knows. anyway, the song is called "piano nocturne in e flat minor" (or Ebm) by Chopin.

I like the stars rotating idea... I like it a lot actually.

hey man, if you ever wanna do a bit of a collab, maybe I could provide some original music for a flash of yours? I've been doing all the music for my flash stuff.... like just recording this keyboard I have

that'd be pretty cool actually, I'd be honored. I've got tons of recording crap in my room here, but I can never write anything. even simple stuff... it just doesn't click in my head like it does for lots of people.

Very cool!!!

I've only just found you in the last few days but I'm already a big fan!

I'd add some other differences b/w days if you could. Maybe a different background color or some sort of difference in the animations. Like some days there could be cars or planes or helicopters and others there is nothing.

But even without it I think its fantastic!

Mmmmm Music!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IvoryDrive In reply to slave-boy [2005-09-11 10:55:27 +0000 UTC]

ooooo I can tell you this, any script I use for anything I really want to put my heart into, I will never ever get from someone else. I wrote it all myself, and sure. you can look at the script for this. share the information I say.

it's pretty simple stuff believe it or not, each moving thing is a movieclip and in that movieclip's code there is all the code. the smoke is a little more difficult though. I wanted the opacity of the smoke down but I didn't want each ball of smoke to layer, does that make sense? so what I did was made a movieclip, inside it I had all the ball spawning crap which I then put on a mask layer masking a partially transparent dark brown layer.

if that makes sense then you can look at the .fla for it just IM me or e-mail me about it.

this one is called "piano noturne in E flat minor (or Ebm)" by Chopin.

it really is beautiful, I'm lucky I had it. I don't think anything else would have quite worked the same way.

That fucking whore took 38 minutes to download! I hate dialup! But it's all I got for the next 2 months. But better tahn nothing.

Great lil' animation by the way. Although, the way the lights turn on as the sun sets is a bit unrealistic, and I'm nitpicking here... but I would imagine the lights would fade to visibility as the sky darkened instead of turning on one at a time like that. Because the lights would most likely be on during the day as well as the night as those look like office buildings, and therefore, the lights would just fade into visibility as the sky darkened. You feel me?

As always, great music selection as well!

IvoryDrive In reply to LaughingTree [2005-09-11 10:49:40 +0000 UTC]

I thought about that very thing. also, some of them have to sleep or something, and the office buildings wouldn't be all turned on during the night either... it just looks so much better when the flick on one by one.

LaughingTree In reply to IvoryDrive [2005-09-15 05:48:31 +0000 UTC]

IvoryDrive In reply to ricadragonwings [2005-09-10 20:06:12 +0000 UTC]

I thought about that, but shooting stars are uncommon and you can't see them in the city. I had stars for a while but they just didn't work. I know what you mean though.

ricadragonwings In reply to IvoryDrive [2005-09-10 21:20:02 +0000 UTC]

You have a really good point there. There are just way too many lights in the city that you can't see the night sky anymore, 'tis a shame...

well my computer is slow as tar and i waited like a half hour for this to load, but it was worth the wait.
i really like it, the transitioning and everything. and it is just as cool slow as fast.
i didnt get the whole effect because my speakers are broken, but i liked it just the same.

however, i did waste a good ten minutes of my life just playing with it. fast, slow, fast, slow. its quite entertaining. i just watched the clock hand go zooming and then slow. ... im entertained easily.

Well, the night picture reminds me of the polar express for some reason. I would say add a train during the night segment, with a little light on the front of the train and the innocent smoke puffing out, and the dim outline of some cars attached behind. Just trudging along...that would make it perfect. To balance it out you could put a plane like everyone said in the sky during the day. Would be kind of cool is to move your mouse up or down on the page or maybe just have a button or something to trigger seasons. This one kind of reminds me of fall, just with the music and the colors. Night probably wouldn't change so much but during the day the colors you used and possibly the music? For summer you could have a nice drizzle of rain and the winter and light drop of snow. Just a few ideas that popped into my head.

Oh btw.....hehe, you'll love this

But I'm letting this just play in my room as I scurry about. It plays softly and slowly in my room as I run about cleaning and looking for my darned Windows XP disc that has mysteriously disappeared. Anyways....it's been playing for like two hours now....

I'm very glad you liked this. the idea I got after legato's comment was a city slowly being built day after day then, one day giant robots attack and the army comes in fighting them day and night. bombs are dropped and time moves forward. eventually everything is destroyed and the city begins anew. day and night with this same music...
