Those "simple" artworks remind me always of David Lynch, the brilliant and artistic director. There's a weird atmosphere in this pic which makes it special and thought-provoking. I love this effect!
I know that no one wants to copy another artist...but maybe you should watch "Mulholland Drive" or "Lost Highway". Let yourself be inspired by the "Lynch"-style and his sense for the physical and emotional impact of colour...especially blue and red.
