Description
For =Drake09 's contest.The contest is to design him a mascot for his personal art website. So, I did. This is still being worked on BTW, so any critique would be AMAZING. Plz & thanks

Thank you! See, I just fixed the legs, and I ended up adding a tail, lol, so I suppose it changes a bit, I hope that it helps... Lol.

Really cool! Love the character design, shading, the "extra" stuff (ie, BG, circle, etc.), and the detailing! And I'll be a little tougher, since this is for a contest. (wanna win, right?! ^_^) OK, so here goes my suggestions for improvement:
-First, I'm not sure if this reads "Dragon." Personally, it looks like a demonic bunny. don't get me wrong, it looks cool, but I guess since it's such a departure from a standard dragon I think you may have stepped waaay out of the box. Maybe add some scale texturing to help with the reading of this. Also, shortening the ears should help too.
-I would slightly darken the red portion of the eye. its just seems to not fit in with the rest of the color pallet that you used on the rest of the dragon. Maybe use the same shade of red on the red whiskar.
I think just doing these two things would really help your odds. (and, I was looking at some of the submittions, and yours looks waaay better already. ^_^)

I mixed around five-ten different colors into the eye, so I'm defiantly planning on putting more red into it.

well first of all the character design / lineart:
i understand how hard it is to do anatomy but... it's hard to tell what angle you were trying to draw him in .. his head'a profile.. his body is kind of 3/4 only in the other direction... then his legs are profile opposite of his head.. then the feet.. are kind of... 3/4 and birds eye view ..
i'm not sure which you want but the main thing for the feet is if you don't want it to look like you're looking directly down at it.. then i'd suggest overlapping the fingers.. toes? so that it looks like it's laying flat on a surface.. also.. the nails. . are a bit confusing.. i'm not sure what's going on with it.. four of them look like they're going down.. which is fine.. but there are two [[ on the outer most edge] that face up.. so i'm not sure what you were intending.. also.. nails normally curve so i think you could maybe let it follow the curve of the toes then go down..
the backgorund:
. the fire needs work the best thing i can say is use references .. unless you were trying to go for like an alchemy circle.. then you can make more of a glow ??
i'm all for messy sketchy quality.. but.. =/ it just looks too messy.. i can't quite make out what you were going for
also.. the white behind him i dont htink is the best choice just b/c the character is white.. so they kind of blend in
coloring of the character:
overall it's alright.. i'd just suggest looking at some reference pictures.. i know this is something you made up but maybe .. for example.. for the legs -- you can look at horse legs,,.. bird claws, etc.
that way you can get an idea of where the muscles and such would be also there's not much of a sense of wher ethe light's coming from so maybe decide on a lightsource and try revolving your tones around that
also i dont think white was the best choice for the character

Thank you so much, I'll be sure to work on this. I added some glow to the alchemy circle, changed the white splash on the background to a dark red, and I fixed the legs, though they still don't look right to me... I'll have to work on them still. - Thank you!

The first thing I would say is that the head looks rather large, making it look kind of top heavy and awkward. I'd suggest making it a bit smaller, and perhaps elongating the waist just a tad.

If you can pull off more stuff like this, and of course add just a bit more effort to it you'd have no trouble with art. But already this is good, don't get me wrong. I'd like to see more stuff like this.

Where to add more effort you ask? Well, I say it looks like you tried adding dimension to the character, yes? With lighting and shading. Why don't you experiment with that a little more and see what you can do.
I have to say, though, you did a good job on the character overall. It's a unique looking creature.

Your style is unique, and within the context of the contest you're submitting it for, it certainly is different from the other entries so far that are more cartoony. I like the colour scheme you've got going, and the tattoo like designs are cool. As someone mentioned before, you may want to rework the anatomy as something isn't sitting right with me. Its center of gravity is off, and it looks like it'll fall over
You mentioned that you wanted this creature to morph into different forms, so I'm not sure which form this is supposed to me. It looks more rodent like than dragon though. But I have very little experience in the world of dragons so it's ultimately up to you how a dragon looks like.

Thanks, and after I drew this I started to notice that it looked like it'll fall over. I started changing that soon after I posted it. This form would be his anthro version, I suppose would be a good way to put it. I made him look a tad bit more mouse-like than the rest I suppose, hoping that it will be different. - I'm not a fan of those cartoon like things really... <3 & Thank you!

I like the general shape or creature design of the figure and the color choices.
I am concerned you have overworked him a bit though. I would consider using fewer body markings or simplifying the design in some other way.
I also feel the background in the version on the left is very distracting. I think it obscures the figure too much.
I definitely like this idea though!

i think its a really good design you styles pretty slick very smooth fluid linework, theres a good amount of different tones, shading and lighting.

Thanks, it's really nice to hear that. My great uncle told me that no drawing looks okay without at least eight different shades of a color in it. I'm not sure I did quite that, but I think I came close.
