Description After handling it,and murdering the requisite number of cottonwods,i suppose that it's about done. The last 320 grit sanding, and a few coats of oil remain. The axe has an interesting dynamic, having all that weight forward, something like a cutler's hammer.Decent cutting action, just takes a bit getting used to.

Glad to hear that. Some complex physics involved in the extent of the beardedness, one best be cautious with that stuff.I've certainly mean to,henceforeward.

Sweet! It looks really fabulous. I wish I'd had an axe that nice when I had to chop three trees down last week.

Thanks, but function-wise,store bought axes are hard to beat.$15 will still buy you an axe plenty nice, especially for a handful of trees, wether this one was tens of hours of work, and tens of pounds of solid fuel...

Oh but all the store bought ones these days are permenantly attatched to wretched fiber glass or nylon handles that tear my hands up horribly (I dislike gloves even more than I dislike open wounds). Our old wooden-handled axe never did that, but it got lost. (T_T)

Ah!But permanence is in the eye of the beholder!Look for the one where the eye shape is similar to the replacement wooden handles that surely they sell at the same place, find the right combination, and perform the transplant.Heat and shock are good metods for disassociating metal from the attached polymer resin and such- like.

Heat and shock, huh? I'll have to give that a try. Thanks!

nicely done. Is that a shaving horse its sitting on? I love how well bearded axes work in wood work. Do you have a makers mark on it? if so where and can we see pictures? Yeah the weight forward make for a wonderfull axe. Is this one ground on one or both sides?

Yes,this is just regular hollow ground job here, and yep,it' a shaving horse, just got done with some handles.I thought that my touch-mark is plainly visible in the last couple of posts, but have to check...

it's fantastic. It reminds me that I have lots of a lot to learn about forging. Today I came out only ruining some iron
