do you prefer lasso to painting/drawing things in? its a lot harder for me but it seems to come out with a cool effect when you do it right.

It is completely personal decision, you can do same with just brushes,
but i like working with lasso!

What advantages does the lasso tool offer over brushing?

It is faster..it least for me..and keeps me away from details to block initial shapes.
