For Free Comic Book Day this year, I ran a contest at the store where I was signing for someone to win a FREE 9x12 commission. The stipulation was, it had to be a character I'd never drawn professionally (or semi-professionally) before. If I'd done a commission or published piece of art featuring that character, they were out. If I'd once doodled a picture of them in a notebook margin when I was in high school, that was okay.

Beyond having some of my work at the table for people to look at, no hints were given. People wrote their contact info and the name of a character on a piece of paper and dropped it into a bucket. At the end of the day, I pulled a card out of the bucket. Then I pulled another one, because the first one said "Deadpool" on it (I looked later and some had character names like "Batman" and "Batgirl" on them. I'm not sure everyone who participated understood the rules). The second one said, "Quake," which I'm hoping referred to the Marvel character Daisy Johnson (or "Skye" if you watch Agents of SHIELD), because that's who I drew for the winner.
