Description sometimes I draw scruffy semi-autobiographical comics about my experiences with gender identity and the weird shit that comes with it and I thought I might as well start posting them here

this happened over a year ago in a pub with an acquaintance of a friend or something (I forget exactly who they were, but the point is I didn't know them) and it's still one of the weirdest things I've had said to me, and to this day I don't know what they meant. To clarify, there is no one single way to 'look non-binary'. This is a problem specific to NB folk not experienced by binary transgender people - the inability to 'pass' as NB no matter what you look like. While difficult in many cases, it's perfectly possible for any trans man or woman to 'pass' as the gender they identify as, even if it requires medication or surgery. For NB people there's no such option, NB passing doesn't exist. Somebody might look at you and think 'I can't tell if that's a girl or a guy' but the point is they're still choosing from the two binary options. While I try and present myself as neutral and androgynous as possible people will always assume I'm one of the two.

Back to the original point there is no 'correct' way to present as non-binary! Clothes, make-up and hairstyles have no inherent gender, wear whatever makes you comfortable. You are still 100% valid even if you wear a tuxedo or a ballgown <3 and if anyone ever tells you something like this, ignore them. or ask them what the heck they mean because I'd love to know.

have you ever been told something bizarre, ignorant or offensive like this? send me your pet peeves when it comes to talking about gender stuff and it might end up in a future comic!

Not about gender so much, but I get random ignorant comments when I say I'm asexual which get me thinking exactly like you've drawn. They're just such strange things that are like 'what does that even have to do with it?' sort of comments xD So yeah, I feel you.
(and as always, the art is super rad! )

Yeah this is pretty common too - the most popular one is 'well you don't LOOK gay' or 'I thought you were a lesbian because of your haircut' like??? what??? appearance has literally nothing to do with sexuality or gender but these stereotypes are so deeply ingrained in people's brains that they think it's okay to make assumptions about real people
