Description Here is my latest Joker. I am beginning to use the tortillian, tissues for blending. I should of stuck with just a few graphites and not charcoal on this. His hair is charcoal and the rest is 2b, Hb. I started his eyes in 6b but changed up to 2b throughout. I am still learning so bare with me LOL. I think I did a better job on the lower part of his face (from below his eyes). I am having a lot of fun learning all this stuff. Enjoy the pic, and please crits and suggestions are always welcome.

I love the way you draw theΒ Joker! There's so much definition and clean lines, very sharp. I can see what you mean about the differences in using charcoal and graphite, it's a little disruptive; I think what would make it blend better is adding the heavy charcoal to his eyes, just to make them pop and look dark.

But this is insanely good work! I can see this as a tattoo design.

This was my first Joker that I ever did. It is also (I think) one of the very first drawings I did when I started to draw again. This is definitely one of my favs in my gallery. I still never really got around to using charcoal on a daily basis but it can be fun to work with but at the same time frustrating. I was just telling another artist not to long ago that the eyes always make the portrait and or drawing. The eyes are always the first thing you look at. Thanks for all the comments, it means a lot when you take the time and share your thoughts, appreciate it.

Seriously, your first? This is extraordinary! Really great drawing for someone just getting back into it. And I agree, charcoal is one of those mediums that requires patience and practice, a deft touch. I tried it when I was much younger and all I remember is making a mess - but it was oddly fun.Β A bit like the hard pastels, which were so dusty and frustrating for a neat-freak like myself. XD

I feel the same way about drawing eyes. I always try to put a lot into the expression, and from painting fan cels I've learned to add multiple shades to get some depth to the color as well. Just for that extra "soul" to the person.

You're welcome! I always try to leave meaningful, specific comments, because I know it's more helpful to an artist to hear what the audience likes (or dislikes). If I can motivate you to draw more often and improve, I'm honored.

It was one of my first, might have been like my 3rd or so, but after I did this one I saw what I was capable of doing and just kept going. Being a neat freak and being an artist is hard to do because sometimes a masterpiece happens when the mess begins to settle. Charcoal is great cause you can use just about anything to blend that stuff, just very messy like you said.Β

The eyes always say it all. They always will. Just something I always stuck by, even when dealing with other people. The more shades of that same color is going to give you that depth and contrast, don't be afraid to just go nuts! LOL

I like to leave a comment also for the same reasons you said. Hearing a crit whether it being a good one or bad one will only have a positive affect. It will just motivate you and push you to do a lot better.

This is great work even with the separation between the hair and face. The shadows look great and you really have a gift for facial details. Keep it up

Thanks man. I did this one over a year ago now. I just started to learn how to use graphite with this one. I am still learning but I have a better understanding now.

Graphite is my favorite medium. You can do some really cool stuff with it.

I've never been very good with colored pencil. I dabbled in charcoals for a bit but it was like 1 in 50 pieces that I even liked.

Nice lines, try for the darkest areas using a carbon pencil, Wolff make good quality pencils, I've just started using them and the blacks are really black, where with a high b graphite you get to much shine........keep going!

Yea he did. Heath Ledger did a better job. Jack was more of a comedic Joker. Heath was that sick, dark, twisted Joker. Thnks for the comment man.
