Description Taken at the state park in my town. I've posted pictures from here in the past but not with this camera (so it doesn't count!). Used an HDR filter because frankly I am obsessed with HDR clouds, haha!

Your thoughts and commented are appreciated as always!

It looks like you have followed the rule of thirds, and given most of the focus to the sky, which is good.
Unfortunately the choppiness of the water is really distracting (to fix this, you could either move to the right and include mostly land or slow down your shutter speed (you may need an ND filter for this) and given the water a smooth smokey look.)

The colours in the body of land are great, however the land on the horizon does not have too much to offer. Sadly, the house (mansion?) is too far away to add anything of interest to the image.

I'd be much more interested in getting a really low shot, looking up at the sky (include some of the grass in the foreground to give the shot depth)

Thanks for this critique! Like I said in the other one- they really are a helpful means of learning to improve one's work

I never thought of the water as being distracting, but I can definitely see how it could come across that way! While I love, love, LOVE the idea of smooth, smoky water, I may explore manually adjusting this in an editing program. I'm afraid lowering my shutter speed will let too much light in and have a negative impact on the sky. But either way- thank you for bringing that up as it's very good food for thought!

As for the land in the background- I may try deleting that house. You're right- it doesn't offer very much to the shot.

And I love the idea of getting a different angle on this. Luckily this park is right down the street from my home so I can go back soon to take more!

If you use a Neutral Density (ND) filter, it will allow you to have the shutter open for longer without letting in more light.
It will also change how the clouds and trees look if they are moving as well.
The downside to this is that you have to buy one
You're welcome!

Thank you so much! I can't pretend I didn't edit it though- the clouds were nice and puffy but I used an HDR filter to enhance everything. I'm glad you enjoyed it though and thanks so much for looking

Oh! No worries! ItΒ΄s an awesome piece!
I use the B&W KΓ€semann Polarizer and I like Fuji Velvia Film!Β  Since the contrasts and colors are extremely.

They do make things look freakishly real, that's for sure! I like the 3D effect, but I get that same "holy crap" reaction when I first turn on the filter. lol
