Description     The first bionic implants were only available to wealthy individuals, but as the technology matured it grew more affordable. It was initially used to counter the effects of age or disability, helping its recipients lead longer, more productive lives. The next generation of implants could be considered augmentations, not only replacing but in many ways outclassing normal human body parts. Sharper senses, stronger limbs, and more efficient hearts and lungs created a cybernetic elite – the precursor to contemporary augmented and transhuman castes.

On the other end of the spectrum are the simplest bionic systems. These are usually inferior to their natural equivalents but are easily affordable, and extend the useful lives of all but the most destitute. Due to their simplicity they are surprisingly durable, and having outlived several owners, many now show signs of damage and inventive, if clumsy, attempts at repair.

In the poorest city sectors obsolete bionic systems are more easily obtainable than healthy human body parts. Some people voluntarily trade the latter for the former to pay debts and avoid imprisonment. Those who lose their liberty can do the same for smaller benefits, though they have less say in the extent of their donations and the quality of their replacements. This fleshgiver retains enough of his old body to keep working, but leads a much reduced existence. Among the free, such cases speak of extreme financial desperation; among slaves and prisoners, they say more for their captors’ greed.

yet again, a STRONG image with a STRONG story/message.

i love this, and how the technology becomes from very expensive and rare to more cheap, affordable and in some cases, a ''solution of desperation''.
so sad to see healthy humans(?) in this universe selling out their flesh and bones for paying their debts, and replacing everything that they have for spare mechanical parts...
i wish that such thing will never happen, no matter how technology grows in epicness.

ah, i talked again too much. but your story inspires such a philosophy to be explored/debated.

the drawing is epic, as always. his face is the only thing reminding me of his former humanity, and his eyes look tired, bored of living in such a condition...
his skin is stretched and old, and everything in his neck, arms and face looks very strained.

the mechanical parts look awesome on his body, with incredible detail.
i wonder tho:
why trade wheels for legs? i see some very good mechanical legs in the garbage bin! maybe he should take them!

a good piece. you are great.

Until, eventually, even the soul can no longer remember where the flesh ends and the steel begins...

Also, Transhumanism is how technologies and advances are going to help humanity and solve problems.  Cyberpunk is how they're just going to make more problems.

Spectacular. I love the details in both the art and the description. It brings a whole different universe to life.

such genius, mister Flaxman ... yet again, through unspeakable misery and "too much humanity" you bring great art!

This seems like a reference to real life trends. Was that intentional?

I got the idea from the live organ harvesting that allegedly happens in China, though some aspects of the backstory could be seen as a comment on Western consumerism. A lot of my favourite sci fi takes real world trends to their sane limits and beyond.

Again it is the picture compared with the explanation that totally does it for me. Great work!
