Description A quick color experiment in photoshop. Still trying to figure out the technical stuff, so I didnt want to over-complicate it with a multi-colored pallete.
Does anyone know why when I make a new layer to color a separate part, the color doesn't go on pure? Whatever color I filled the first layer with seems to interfere and you get a mixture of the two...

I think the drawing it's friggin' sweet!

For the color stuff u mentioned why don't you try maskin the layer...?
I think maybe that will work

Still don't know how to use layer the masks...I think I solved the problem though. I had the layers out of order and I didn't separate my lineart properly. Thanks for the advice though, I'll learn masks one of these days....

Okay, you probably have all your layers set to multiply so when you apply the new color to the new layer it starts acting funky. Set your top layer to multiply, then make new layers UNDERNEATH to add color. When you finish adding color to a layer change it to multiply, then open a new layer set to normal to do a color. That is one way to do it.

This is superb James. Sooo wish you had the time to finish off your Erth sketches. Still need to place them up at some point - can't remember if you'd joined the Forums, may be worth putting the Darathia sketches up there in the Brainstorm forum personally.

As for the colour inteference have you checker:

1. The oppacity settings of the brush?
2. If you have a blending mode set on the layer they will intefere.
3. Any Brush dynamics you may messed with?

I know, me too. Maybe when I get the hang of this photoshop thing I'll hand over some color concepts to you. I still really like that Darithia doodle I gave you.
I'll check the blending mode on the layers, that may be what's screwing it up. I think has a good point, too.

I love all your Darathia concepts - you're pencil and inkwork in particular are very professional. I think you don't give enough credit to your colouring, even with still experimenting.

I've got quite a bit of work ahead of me if i want to get better at coloring. There's mainly just a barrier of technical know-how that I'm trying to overcome. Luckily people on DA are more than helpful
