He has received four Academy Award nominations and three Golden Globe Awards for his performances in Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire and Magnolia. He is also known for his action films, especially the Mission: Impossible series, in which he portrays Ethan Hunt and does his own stunts. He has also starred in other popular movies such as A Few Good Men, Interview with the Vampire, The Last Samurai, War of the Worlds, Jack Reacher and Edge of Tomorrow. He is one of the highest-grossing box-office stars of all time.
Tom Cruise has been married three times to actresses Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes. He has three children: two adopted with Kidman (Isabella and Connor) and one biological with Holmes (Suri). He is a devout follower of Scientology, a controversial religion that he credits with helping him overcome dyslexia. He has faced criticism for his views on psychiatry and anti-depressant drugs, as well as his efforts to promote Scientology in Europe. He is a close friend of Scientology leader David Miscavige.
