Description As bland and as dull as the rest of the series. Thinking back over the few hours of gameplay that make up the campaign, the only memorable thing about it was Cortana's blue butt. The developers must have realised that was the best feature of the game, too, as they seemed to display it on screen as often as they could.

Yeah, 343 Industries COMPLETELY inherited Bungie's habit of repetitive levels. It's like Microsoft says "Keep padding it! We need a longer playtime!!" TBH Bungie was a little more elegant about it.

And it was also way too easy to just stare at Cortana...every..inch...of Cortana...

Although...didn't the Didact want to wipe out all Humans on Earth? That's a pretty good reason for killing him...

I you read Cryptum, you would realize that the Didact was the head of the militant branch of the Forerunners and thus lead the near extermination humans before the first arrival of the flood. I won't spoil any more, go read the book it is pretty epic.

Yup. Even though it's pretty unlikely, since like, no one has heard of it. Even so, it's a good game. Gamers, I know you may or may not have heard about this game before, but if you have not played V:TM - B, you have not truly gamed.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheLastOutlaw In reply to roguetitan666 [2015-01-08 15:29:41 +0000 UTC]

V:TM is good only in the potential it had (which was mostly realized later through incredible fan patching) A HTP of the "real" V:TM" would be brutally dissapointing (but deservingly brutal) but even the fan patched version can't save the game from the gun happy last act that can make the game nigh unwinnable with the wrong character build (something that goes against the entire flavor of the first two thirds of the game) and then there's also the sewer level that pretty much created the horrible sewer level trope.

I'm not saying don't play it, everyone really should at least once (or twice, playing as a Malkavian is really required to achieve the maximum fun potential possible from the game) just don't expect gaming perfection as some have hyped the quality of the game far beyond what it truly was.

All video games are a collection of obstacles for the player to overcome. All action games can be reduced to a simple description of rinse and repeat. Tomb Raider is jump, shoot, find key. Uncharted is shoot, take cover, repeat. Killzone is shoot, shoot repeat. Even Super Mario could be accurately described as run, jump, repeat. It doesn't matter if a game is simple or repetitive so long as it's fun.

Halo 4, along with all the other Halo games are shooters and therefore the obstacle to overcome is a bunch of enemies to shoot. The game gives you an interesting narrative to provide logical reason for overcoming the obstacles. Shooting stuff in Halo 4, or overcoming the game's obstacles, is fun. Plain and simple fun. That's all a good game needs. Halo 4 is one of my favorite in the series. I love all the Halo games and I really liked the enhancements it brought to the series. 343i did an incredible job with Halo 4. It's more fun than all the COD games I've played. The narrative is told better than the Half-Life games.

Cheatman16 In reply to kevinberryman [2014-12-01 00:16:46 +0000 UTC]

The problem for me with Halo 4 isn't the repetition (which it's seriously guilty of), it's also just no fun. When playing the halo games, it'd always feel like 'Yeah I've GOT to do this', something spurned you on, even if you died 20 times in a row against some low tier enemies, but with Halo 4 all I found myself asking 'Why am I doing this?', it didn't give you that sense of urgency, it didn't make me want to explore and find more. It also disappointed me because it didn't have any real set piece battles, there wasn't any diversity in what you were doing.

Now, I'm not saying COD is any good, but at least in their games there's at least one section of gameplay, not story, gameplay that people can easily remember and stands out. Halo 4 didn't have that. Story wise, COD had an easily memorable storyline and characters that you'd give a damn about. The only thing that stood out is the death of cortana. There was some other story points such as THE CREATOR OF THE HUMAN RACE TRYING TO MURDER EVERYTHING, but it got over shadowed so easily, and other important points such as WHY we were at war with the elites and how there are now Spartan 3's were left unanswered. The environments were so bland it didn't make me want to explore to find secrets, and the characters were so generic outside of chief and cortana that I can't even remember their faces, let alone their names.

To me Halo 4 isn't the worst game out there, but it's certainly not a good game.

I couldn't disagree with you more. I mean I literally disagree with every single one of your points and feel very strongly the opposite to how you feel.

The only part of your post that I even come close to agreeing with you, is that some plot points were not as well layed out as they could have been. But compared to the storytelling of the other Halo games Halo 4 would be worthy of an Oscar. Whether or not the story appealed to you, it was told far more clearly and with far more style than any of the previous games in the series. Playing Halo The Master Chief Collection shows just how much better the storytelling is in Halo 4. Halo 3, in particular, is spotty and Halo 2 jumps around so much it's hard to tell whats going on until the very end, but then the game just gets cut off instead of having and ending.

The parts in Halo 4 you say were unanswered got answered in Spartan Ops which came with the game and was a fun and challenging second campaign taking place directly after the events of Halo 4. As for "HE CREATOR OF THE HUMAN RACE TRYING TO MURDER EVERYTHING", I assume you are talking about the Didact who did not create the human race. He went to war with the human race and punished the human race and tried to digitize the human race, but he didn't create the human race. All that was explained in the terminal videos which you could access on each level of the gaming by doing a little exploration. They weren't hard to find and they told a very interesting story about why the villain of the game hates humanity and is willing to do anything to bring back the glory days of his people.

Halo 4 may not be perfect, but it is clearly a good game. That's why it was critically acclaimed and holds such a high metacritic score. It is objectively good. Subjectively you may not like it, or understand why others do, but it is most certainly not a bad game.

I actually like the Halo series and the story involved with it. Granted, it's nothing like the rich environments that you find in RPG's and such, but for a shooter, the story provides enough to keep you involved and know mostly why you are shooting something up. Besides the fact that it's shooting at you.

Of all the games, I think that Reach had the richest story. There was quite a bit of plot there that neatly lead up to Halo 1.

Me and my friend finished it TWO DAYS after he got it. $60 dollars doesn't even began to cover that. It's really void of any content remotely interesting. while not as bad it does have a spot with Watch Dogs and Titanfall in the latest games to be hype into oblivion by idiots with deep pockets and turn out to be severely lacking.

The problem with Halo is that the first one was good in that it laid down a nice frame work, a basic gameplay and setting that you could eventually throw more stuff into.

Then Halo 2 came out, had a good plot, evolved the gameplay and ran you through cool locals with interesting characters at your side, properly capturing the meaning of "Epic"...

And then everyone hated on Halo 2 for not being enough like Halo 1 and CUE INFINITE RECURSION!

"I know how we'll make the game new and fresh, we'll cut out that awesome helicopter and put in a bunch weird hovery tron line versions of the guns you already have! Then you can fight INFINITE SPACE CATS! YEAH, look at how much these forerunner things aren't like elites and grunts despite being functionally the same thing except annoying and crap."

"Yeah, and then we could have the Elites and Grunts and things come back so you can fight them again, even though that conflict was pretty well resolved BECAUSE YOUR ACTIONS ARE ALWAYS MEANINGLESS AND WAR WILL NEVER END!"

"Ha ha, yeah, never do new and different things, character design is too hard after all, and that whole teaming up with the Elites thing was just a fad anyway."
