Description Β©2010 Jon Hodgson

A typical Men of the Wilderland dwelling for The One Ring rpg from Sophisticated Games and Cubicle 7.

"Almost two thousand years ago, a shadow crept from the South and slowly drew all light from the heart of Greenwood the Great to its farthest eaves. People began calling the forest Mirkwood, and learnt
to fear its deepest recesses. In spite of the darkness, many lingered along the forest’s borders, fearless sons of Men who defied the menace of the Necromancer in his dreaded abode. These Woodmen have fought the growing darkness for as long as their oldest tellers of tales can remember, and they will continue the fight now that the Shadow has deserted its lair."

This is brilliant, it's kind of like Rohan/Edoras (when I saw the main hall thats what came to mind) in the middle of an elven realm.

There's a big saxon/nordic influence on all the various cultures in The One Ring: We took great pains to go back to the source material and look at Tolkien's influences and intentions. That Northern European Early Medieval style of building was used more or less exclusively for Rohan in the movies, from which it is probably it's best known.

yeah that's true, Tolkien did base the Rohan men on Anglo Saxons who came from around the same region of Europe as Finland (the language of which Tolkien based one type of Elvish)

Amazing! I love the composition, the way the trees kind of circle around the holding-- it creates a kind of entrapment feel. And the bird in the forefront is a wonderful cute touch.

Super piece! Nice subdued, subtle tones. Often fantasy stuff can be a bit garish, but yours is authentically atmospheric, and very easy on the eye.

Following on what ~NonieR said, it is amazing how that bird makes what would be a nice illustration into something alive and fascinating.

Lovely! And the bird really brings it to life, as well as giving the picture more visual depth. I could look at this for hours
