Umm, Im not pleased with it. I know I can do better.. so I will.**edit** Sorry for such a short comment the first time around. It was supper time, and JJ was huffing and puffing till I came and sat down. So, the reason Im not so pleased with it is because I wanted the pen tooling to really stand out, and it doesnt here. When I first started out with the image, and those main lines going through it, they looked ok. Now as the image came together they started looking more and more just thrown together to me. I like that, again, I learned some new things with this image. But the orriginal palette of colors I was trying to display got lost somewhere in everything else. That and there are now parts of it which are too dark, or *I dont even know what word to use* so Ive resigned to do it again. Its a long path of learning I have in front of me still..

It's actually quite instructional to hear about what you're dissatisfied with as the artist. To me this looks fabulous, so to hear your breakdown of the process and what you felt went askew is a different and illuminating way to learn how to do this stuff. Thanks

Can I be completely honest here? Ive always thought this piece was on the crappy side of things. But yet again it goes to show that while a person can be their own hardest critic, its what other people see that should count the most.

I agree completely with the artist themselves being their hardest critic---I'm very much the same way. I start something and go to trash it, and if anyone's around to notice, I always find myself getting yelled at.
The demand for "perfect" technical work for me can honestly be very well maimed if I find a work that shows very serious potential.
So while I agree slightly that this one does seem a little "less polished" on the technical side, in some ways I actually kind of liked that about it. It gave a very charming quality to it.
And while I really liked the color choices, most apparent to me was the design elements inherent to the finished work. The flow of the design coupled with how wisely you used the negative space works exquisitely well for a desktop perimeter, and this stood right out.

Jedrek is good. Hes a little dancing fool! Hes been being real bad the past couple of days trying to pull out the plastic electrical outlet plugs that we have. That sucks. Hes also been being really cuddly with me lately, so at least thats enjoyable.

Its just me, I get an idea or a goal, and when it doesnt come out right I still upload it for others to see, but must comment that I myself dont fancy it. Its all a learning experience to me.. gotta better myself

i think there is too much of that distressed look (erasing), but thats about all that bothers me about this, it's done very well

For me it just didnt come together like I wanted. The main lines, looked better at first, but then as the image came together they looked more and more out of place, or out of proportion. I dunno. For me I just dont like them, thats my main thing. However I agree with you about the distressed look, especially for the border. I am really interested in creating a nice almost splatter look to it, but havnt found out a great way to do it yet I dont feel.

Lol, yea. Ive been trying to accomplish a simple look lately, but my personal tastes are "color everywhere!!!"
I really am just right now trying to do everything from scratch, and even though it may be a slow process I hope that someday Ill be able to look back at it and feel accomplished.
Like TannerMorrows stuff, its really inspiring, alot of that simplicity with textures is something Id like to be able to do.

Well, I filled a layer with a dark brown, then made a rounded rectangle path, which I centered, then made into a selection so that I could delete the middle from the filled layer. Then I messed around with some eraser settings to try and get a splattered, grungy feel to the parts that are erased.
