Wicked! I'm loving everything about this: the symmetry of your pose, the angle of the shot, the black powder paint, your mad-dog expression, and the beautiful green of your eyes. You look like a demon here. I wouldn't be surprised if you had little horns, too. LOL

The composition is so claustrophobic and yet I can really feel the depth of everything. I also like how the tones really enhance the color of the eyes.

Haha... I have to say, it was VERY claustrophobic when I shot it. It was my first shot at something wide angle.

Very engaging shot Jason - the perspective, that paint, those magnetic eyes.... it all comes together into some great visual tension,

btw what new lens did you get?

I just got the kit lens 18-55 for my K10D. I needed something a bit wider.

Oh ok, if you ever find yourself in the market, I highly recommend the 10-17mm. I think you could have a lot of fun with that lens.

I would LOVE to get that! Right now, I am working on getting the 50mm f1.4 and then the 50-135mm f2.8. I just need some money

ruabuddha In reply to jzcj5 [2009-05-12 02:38:19 +0000 UTC]

I have the 50 f1.4 and it is amazing, brilliant from around f4.0 and up, you lose some resolution from 1.4 to 2.8, But 4.0 is brilliant, and a great bokeh. I would love to get the 50-135 f2.8, but since I moved, it will have to wait.

Not sure if you are a member, but it is a great source of reviews and experience for Pentax users: [link]

With the lenses I have, I bet even f1.4 looks better than f8 with them. I wanted to get enough lenses to cover a wide focal range and then get one really good portrait lens. I was thinking of the 55mm f1.4 but it is quite a bit more money and it didnt do all that much better than the 50 f1.4 so Ill save the 500 and get that one

well check out the Pentax Forums, their lens database has so many reviews, it is indispensable for deciding where your money is best spent. I would definitely stick with the 50 f1.4, much cheaper and 99% as good. The extra money would be better spent on the 77mm f1.7 if you were looking for the UBER-portrait lens - it is rated as one of the 10 best lenses made. It runs around $650, but you get what you pay for, it is all metal, and brilliant glass optics. Superb resolution and color rendition.

I think the new catch-phrase floating about is "Texturgasm". Their is a richness to this image that, coupled with the intensity of the stare just make for an dynamic and electric image, which for a picture without movement is impressive. I love the use of this black paint you've been doing in the latest photos.

You certainly are having fun with that new lens, huh. I don't blame you...

Just...Wow. I love the expression, the minimalism, the vulnerability, that paint, and of course the eyes. They're so amazingly green. I'm really liking how everything seems just a little out of focus...except the face.
